Heavier plates are wider, so your grip and hand stance goes wider too. I wonder does it affect efficency of this exercise? You did this video with 27.5 lbs plate, right?
@LPSAthletic
@LPSAthletic 16 күн бұрын
Yes, 27.5. It won't affect the efficiency.

How much do u turn ( do u completely flip or almost turn into hammer )
@LPSAthletic
@LPSAthletic 4 ай бұрын
Completely flip so that your palms face down (or as far as you can) as some may not have the wrist mobility for it at the start.

This is such a simple but effective move, built tons more mass than on pulldowns with this and it works your core hard too

Not trying to be a dick… but Charles Polk didn’t do a great job of explaining mechanical advantages.. A mechanical advantage happens when the effort arm is longer than the resistance arm. In a bicep curl - regardless of the angle of the lumbar, thoracic, and cervical spine - the length of the effort arm (bicep’s brachii) is substantially shorter than the length of the resistance arm (essentially the entire length of the forearm, from the elbow all the way to the center of mass of the dumbbells). That would make a bicep curl a mechanical DISADVANTAGE, not an advantage. The biceps (the effort arm) have to produce a force much greater than the force of the resistance arm (dumbbell) in order to overcome it. Mechanical advantages require much less force of the effort arm to overcome the force of the resistance arm. Think weighted calf raises… can move a very large mass, with seemingly minimal effort. Why? Because the effort arm is longer than the resistance arm. I understand the temptation is very real for all of us in this space - self included- to sound smarter than we actually are by using big words like “Mechanical advantages and disadvantages” i get it.. but words do actually mean things. And the people who trust you to train them deserve a teacher who understands biomechanics, or at the very least a coach that doesn’t pretend to understand biomechanics in an effort to inflate their own ego. The strength and conditioning profession is changing for the better. There simply is no room for gimmicks, fitness fads, or frauds. Get on board, put the ego aside, teach with humility and an eagerness to learn, or get out of the way!

Yes, 100% re: mechanical advantages. Thank you for sharing. Even though we don't mention anything about mechanical advantage in this video, you are right, there are lots of professionals out there not knowing what they are talking about, and we're on a mission to get rid of all the gimmicks and frauds. Keep doing the good work.

@jeremychoi
@jeremychoi 6 ай бұрын
@@zomo333Years of not doing it pass your toes is bad for your knees. Think about how infants and kids naturally squat. Knees over the toes cause that allows distribution of energy from the ankle up. If you don't let your knees pass your toes you are over time shortening your ligaments and tendons.

This pretty much looks like the best deadlift variation to work your hams in the way they actually function.....knee flexion and hip extension. No wonder that this one was Charles' favourite if you didn't have access to a leg curl machine. Gonna intergrate that into my next phase. Great content as usual. Too bad that i still can't visit you guys, because the canadian government doesn't accept the "recovered"-status in the green pass.

Let me just say, I am working hard to be THIS type of coach. A coach who genuinely cares about his trainees. I got so emotional and fired up looking at this, I know there's more in me to give to others. I have to genuinely show that passion in everything I say to them and do in front of them.
