Between my sons' issues and mine, attempts at potty training have been going on for like two or three years. He has shown signs of readiness for a long time, but he just doesn't want to be consistent (either), so it's a struggle. His preschool and I jusr both try to sit him on the potty at least a couple of times a day...and just as we start getting it I'll get busy again with other kids, husband, whatever, and forget. And so will he. Neurodivergent issues... 😅 Thanks, we'll keep on plugging.

Elopement is what autistic children do. My two two year old nieces will run together. The autistic niece will stop if she looks back and doesn't see anybody chasing her. The autistic niece will keep going for awhile without looking back.

we started training our asd girl when she was 2 and she in now 4 and can now do wee in the toilet with no problems while wearing her training underwear but refuses to do poo in the toilet. hopefully she catches on soon because this really limits our school options if she isn't fully toilet trained..

My son will be 6 next month. He is non verbal. I tried potty training around 3 it was a fail. I want to try again this yr but struggling to find things to help him as rewards. He does not eat sweets. His diet is very precise & selective. He is always scared to sit on the normal toilet. I have the insert on there to fit his bottom. He cries when i insist for him to try sit down. Any suggestion will greatly help.
@accessingautism56886 ай бұрын
Try a toy that is only used when is using the potty or a reward for trying to use it. Take him to the store and let him pick :). Screen time can also be used.

Would he stand on the toilet/could he stand on the toilet and then aim down? I know it sounds crazy, but I read a book that recommended it.

Our son is non verbal and he is now 13, we've been trying since he was 4, it's only getting worse, he tears off his diapers and pees on everything, the floor, our furniture, he's ruined so much furniture and even floor boards. He'll pee on himself and even us sometimes, we're just at our very wits end. I've tried so so so many things, I just wish something would work. Sorry this is a vent and I wonder if I'm alone or maybe I can let someone else know they're not

Thank you for sharing. My son is 16. He tears off diapers as well. I wash the carpet so much and have bought so many mattresses that I feel I'm getting ptsd against both. I'm so fed up. I was told he would never be able to be trained. I'm here now because I just finished showering him and have to now go clean the carpet...I want hope to train him.

I have a level 2 verbal autistic son who is 10 years old and he will pee in the potty but won't poop in the potty. He screams and cries if we make him sit for 2 min. He says I'm mean. I feel he is ready he just doesn't want change. Because before I took away pull ups he would come to me and say, "mom I pooped come change me" I felt if he can poop himself and tell me to change him, he should be ready. I think I need to take him to the toilet every hour but that is exhausting with no help.
