I think her final comment at the end of this video reveals alot. Leonard didn't owe her anything and she shouldn't expect anything or be embittered because it wasn't offered.

Well if Leonard Cohen a millionaire poet songwriter, and whose name will go down in history, gets cock teased and friendzoned who am I to complain? lol

I feel that Cohen had a selfish streak in him ,but I still love his music , especially the early songs .🙂

"Pride goeth before a fall." She brought her financial troubles on herself. In her own words, "It was beneath me to ask." Cohen may have been aware of her situation, but I can't even imagine the complexity of the spiritual calculations he must have been considering over what to do about it. Their relationship seems to have been extremely deep and complex. Perhaps he thought initiating a financial arrangement would be received as crass, or commercisl, or insulting, or who knows what? In any case, it is certainly one of the most beautiful songs to come out of the 60s, and it's regrettable that the inspiration for it was not able to share in the rewards.

It's a bit naive to expect that Leonard Cohen would bail her out after her rejecting him sexually. It's just not how most men operate but especially famous ones. Especially since he had no shortage of women, including Marianne in Greece with whom he had a live-in relationship. He became so caught up in fame and the people he met that it killed off his relationship with Marianne. He was in the eye of the cyclone and was using various drugs at different times. Cohen savoured moments and had a fine sense of observation. This Susanne is only recently keeping notes. What happened to her is very sad but this is just how life is. Poignant.

Suzanne était l'épouse du sculpteur Armand Vaillancourt, ami de Leonard Cohen. Àgé de 94 ans et encore très lucide en 2024, Vaillancourt pourrait en dire davantage sur le sujet.

Suzanne has always been one of my favorite songs. I am so sorry that Leonard did not reach out to help her when she needed it. He certainly had the means to do so, and now his memory, at least for me is somewhat tarnished.

To weave such a romance thru the web of love and treat such sound as pleasant as a dew drop on silk with such finesse, COHEN was a lover of woman, words, whisky sounds.🦘🦘👍🇸🇩😎✌️🦘🦘🦘

The years have been very good to Suzanne; like old wine, she has aged beautifully. I eagerly await the publication of her book that she mentions here - the 1960s were an amazing time and it would a privilege to live those years through her book. Incidentally, Leonard Cohen made it public that the copyright to the song was stolen by a friend of his, which is very sad.

"Suzannes By The River " was a antique sorta store in Capitola, along the creek just before it hits the ocean. I lived on The Esplanade in 1976. But I never went there. I was too chicken! It was there in c.1970 too, I drove by it many times and when it wasn't there anymore, it the late 80's I think, all I could do was mope over not visiting, like now

I met Suzanne and her daughter in Montreal in 1989 and the early 1990s in the Carre St. Louis, a place I used to go to sing and play guitar, sometimes all night in these wonderful jam sessions. The song, "Suzanne" was one of the many songs I would play. I didn't realise there was a video about her on KZfaq. Wow.

I'm surprised that he didn't help, her, I'm currently reading a Cohen biography and one of the things that emerges is how generous, he was in terms of money, he paid his musicians well, and was always footing the bill for food and drink, and even offering to help people out financially.
