I like this ancient method of cooling your home also. You can add pools of water at the bottom to further cool

What causes the colder heavier air to rise into the warmer house? In my house cold air stays in basement.

I wondered about that too but you can see all the example buildings have rectangular wind catchers. I guess she just meant that the flatter sides just pull in more air than a curved shape which stands to reason.

In the 1930’s, a similar system was set up in a hospital in Alice Springs, Australia, by the man who invented the Flying Doctors. 2 story building , with a tall turret. All windows and doors closed, except for the turret ones. Air inlet 2m outside the wall, feeding into the underground “hallway”. The hung 3 large hessian pieces, at intervals top to bottom in the “hallway”. The nurses and maids kept the hessian soaked, and had trays under to catch the drips. Each of the numerous rooms had a register in the floor, and the diagonally opposite corner of the ceiling. The first evaporative water-cooled house in Australia. Central Aust is a desert...0% humidity, up to 45deg C in summer. LouiseAustralia 🦘

The best air tunnel is the one that is submerged in subterranean water and with a type of aluminum honeycomb to better cool the air.

Such a tube would quickly become a maintenance nightmare invaded by rodents and overgrown by black mold. My lungs say "thanks but no thanks '. Instead it's well worth the small electrical cost to circulate a heat exchange fluid between the ground and air coils. Really

Not a wise idea. Bad utilisation of roof. Good for vertical walls. Instead put a jute shade 8feet above with bamboo support. Permeable and allow flow of wind.In extreme summer wet the jute toward dusk and it will cool the air beneath. Utilise the roof for more productive idea.
