You still have to paint it after you put the glue and canvas on it.the paint makes it waterproof. You sand it and use body fill for imperfections
@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournalКүн бұрын
It's back to time, material costs and what the end result is going to look like. To each his own. For me the canvas and glue approach just was NOT going to give me the finished look that I wanted, so I chose to pivot.

I´ve got an Electra Glide (FLHS, similar to Road King) and a Sport Glide from 2019. On the Sport Glide I mounted a Memphis Shade Windshield, a King-Topcase, Floorboards from a Fat Boy and a Saddlemen Sat (with backrest). So I have a good comparison between these bikes as I ride both quite often. The old Electra Glide feels much heavier and less agile than the Sport Glide (although only 30 or 40 kg more). The chassis is not as good (maybe because she´s much older) and the maneuverability of the Sport Glide is much easier. Although I never felt like having problems to handle the old Electra there is a big difference between these bikes. Ok, when you ride long distances for many days the Electra seems to be still the better choice, but I think the Sport Glide will take over this purpose soon. In two weeks I take her for one week tour through the Alps. We´ll see if she can beat the Electra. :) And: you can dismount the windshield and the cases within a few minutes and have a pure good looking Softail cruiser.

I just moved to the Adirondacks. Last month a black bear popped out of the bushes 20 ft in front of me on the road alongside my property. I started walking back home and singing loudly but the sumofabitch followed me for around a minute until I escalated my singing to shouting. He finally gave a grunt & ran off into the woods. I have never been more terrified I was going to die in my life.
@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournal3 күн бұрын
Glad that your encounter ended well. As I said in the video, if a black bear isn't afraid of you and won't run off, that's trouble. It's not normal black bear behavior. Best of luck to you...

Those pullback risers are a terrible idea. They change the fulcrum of the steering head axis. It's like steering with a "boat tiller" using handlebars. The "swing" is off. A better choice for greatly improved control and comfort would be low rise BuckHorn bars 28" wide and 6" rise should just about do it. These offer comfort, control and balance. The Hoy Grail for Harley Riders. Try them. Your wrists will thank you.

I just got a 2023 klx 300r used. Dude didn’t use it all that much I can really tell. But he left it pretty low on oil by the time I got it. He had it since august 2023. I’m changing the oil filter, draining and filling motor oil. Then I plan on lubing up everything the Manual says. Should I still get it looked at at my local dealership?
@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournal15 күн бұрын
I'd just do a good service on the bike and ride it easy for a while. If you aren't detecting any issues, you should be fine. Keep an eye on the oil to be sure the level is holding. That motor is tough,it can hold up to a lot. Good luck.

That looks awesome Todd, really like it. My only question is that it looks like the front turn signals are obstructed
@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournal25 күн бұрын
I'm waiting for brackets to arrive to relocate the turn signals to the forks. Others have installed mirrors with built-in turn signals. With tall risers/bars they come up over the fairing and the OEM signals still work. Lots of options.

Real nice job and I'm about to start a very similar build in the next 2 weeks. Did you layout the post spacing to be 10x20 or is it 10x20 to outside of girts? Not that it matters, was just curious. Most pole barn suppliers size the building to the girts. Thanks!
@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournal25 күн бұрын
I needed the outside measurements to be 10x20 or less because my Township doesn't require a building permit for buildings 200 square feet or less.

To anyone trying to install this kit on low rider st..... I struggled with it untill I realized the notch needs to point UP, instead of down which is mentioned accordingly to the instruction manual in this video. No where in the instructions is this mentioned and I have not found any source of confirmation, its just a tip and it worked for me.
@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournal29 күн бұрын
If I stated that the instructions said to put the notch down, I'm confident that That is exactly what the instructions said. If they have since modified the instructions, so be it, but I have not had any problems with my axle covers since installation. 5,000+ miles.
@adam089329 күн бұрын
@@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournal sorry used the wrong words. What I mean is that it does say so in the instruction. You are absolutely right about that. It just is the opposite for the Low rider st, which is not writen in the manual.
@danman5857Ай бұрын
So question here. Rather than gambling on an expensive aftermarket seat, wouldn't it be better to find an excellent local upholsterer who can modify the stock seat, measure, cut, add, shape, add gel inserts, etc, and get a seat tailored to your touchie?
@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournalАй бұрын
If you have the time and desire to go that direction, I'm sure you could do it. Doubtful that you would save any money. Because you're using the stock seat frame a back rest would not be an option.

Todd I can’t thank you enough for doing this video my better half has been on me about this and like you been trying find a video that goes into more detail from a stock seat to the explorer seat. One question I do have is does your better half ride with you because my concern is does or could the lumbar pad affect a passenger as far as comfort goes in your opinion. Thank you for all your input on this and other videos as well.
@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournalАй бұрын
The passenger pillion on the saddleman is definitely wider and way more comfortable. It like the seat gas a built-in gel center. I don't ride 2 up often as my wife has her own bike. With a sissy bar, this seat will make your passenger happy. Best of luck...

I’m 6’ 250 lbs and getting the taller mini apes and riser was a night and day difference. I was getting a lot of lower back pain after an hour or so of riding. Now I never even think about. The stock seat had to go and I went with the saddleman you’re referring to with the back rest. Kind of mixed on my opinion of that. It is better than the stock seat though. 🤷♂️

These are a waste of money. They increase engine temp. You just purchased a high dollar air cooled bike, now you just blocked much needed air flow by installing these. NOT A GOOD IDEA!!

I just did a 4 day 1,500 mile trip in 90 degree Temps each day and had no problems. With the vents open, the motor gets plenty of air. You're entitled to your opinion. I like the lowers and the added comfort is amazing. The bike is fine
@3ruffians10Ай бұрын
One thing to try to eliminate buffeting is to add a vent in your windshield. This allows just enough air through to eliminate the air pocket behind the windshield and therefore gets rid of that air effect. I have a heritage and between the fork mounted fangs and the vent buffeting is almost zero at any speed

I really like your idea! I have a slightly different idea. Find a little more modern popup, say 2001-2005. Strip off the popup portion, and try and keep the floor, tanks, frame, propane. Add the foamie on top of that existing base. I want a usable bathroom with shower. Also, wife and I sleep separately now due to her cpap, so want to have two twins, so have to manage the layout. I have an electric SUV so need light weight (3500lb towing capacity).
