I am not totally sure but i don't think the sway hitch should be used with any kind of non locking articulating hitch on or off road

We still have it. This past season we only took it out on one camping trip but it was a long one. We took it to Mt z Ranier, Mt Shasta, Oregon coast and sone other stops on a 2.5 week trip. I ended up crimping one of the water lines that goes to the slide out kitchen and my patch skills did not do very well. So we had to audible and stay at sone campsites either bathrooms. It was pretty hot when we went and the slide out fridge really struggled. We had a good time still but I think this unit is ideal for a family of 3. I do like the size of it for maneuverability but for our family of 5, with 2 teenage boys, it’s challenging. The price is really just too costly for how we use it. If we took it off-road more I could see it being a better value. I do think it needs more solar and additional batteries for true boondocking. That fridge pulls a lot of power. We’ve had fun with though. Looking for something a bit bigger with better insulation for the colder months.

whenta i have seen videos of people adjusting weight distributing hitches the front jack stand is used to elevate the hitch point or the connected tv and trailer before attaching tension bars, this generates tension as the jack is removed. Never did it myself but if your jack stand must be up before you set bar, then you might need to use a separate jack to elevate the hitch while setting bars.

This iteration is kind of a money grab on a lot of the quality of the components. I primarily wanted the No-wood body so I overpaid for that attribute. We are enjoying it though.

The black out screens you have to make sure you raise them evenly, lifting from the middle or they can come out of the track on one side. They are easy to get back in like you said with a knife. We’ve had them in Australia here for probably 20 years and I’ve never had any problems with them on all the vans I’ve had.

I’m interested what these units cost in Australia by comparison. I’m assuming we are paying quite a bit more in the US. But with the shades my expectation is that they would have figured out a system that is more user-proof at this high price point. I’m careful and the large rear window shade in the back just does not want to work no matter how careful I am.

These trailers all come out of a Chinese facility they get ordered with various options and tweaks by each “Brand” Opus, Black Label, Dweller, MDC etc. You need to look at each one little things like rounded door frame on the MDC vs the Opus costs a little more to make but with Aluminum structure you need rounded top corners to avoid cracked door frames. FWC Campers learned that one decades ago. The basic 15ft before shipping is about $16,000, shipping today 2ish per 4ft container $6000 ish cost to ship 2. Pre pandemic the early ones weren’t selling and those that were were going for about $36,000. Its been fascinating watching various brands surface in the US selling their version for crazy high prices.

Yes. There us a kitchen on the inside but no fridge. If I was doing winter camping this might be a problem but I doubt I will. I only used the outdoor kitchen with the outdoor access fridge all season.

Your d35 hitch has a red button, this red button needs to be pushed in to lock the hitch, your lucky you had stabiliser bars on or it could of came off. Also the stabiliser kills the effect of this particular hitch, it’s designed so that if the van starts swaying and flips it won’t flip your vehicle as well. We in Australia don’t use stabiliser bars on off road vans, for highway travel we are only allowed to go at 100 kilometres an hour in mph is ? which is a standard speed for ALL towing including trucks, enjoy your new purchase we’ve had ours for over 2 years here in OZ and been every where you would not expect , enjoy.

I know but I must not have weight distribution figured out. I have watched vids and done my best to mimic but it still sways like crazy when there’s any wind. So I just do the bars and it drives comfortable. If I go off road I can remove them. I know about the red button and have never driven with it not locked.

@@northidahoadventurers4323 thanks for the reply, something to look out for is tyre pressure, 50psi, also when towing the first time in an auto I was putting it in “ drive” where if you tow in the the top gear, mine is fourth, much better controll going downhill & cornering, saves a bit on fuel as well and to 100klm an hour max ( I think that’s.60 mph) and you’ll be right, enjoy your adventures.

No need to fit stabiliser bars to this type of trailer if it’s loaded correctly. This type of trailer is everywhere in Australia and I’ve never seen one with bars.

Is the heat only a heat strip in the AC unit? Thats one thing about these Australian/ Chinese knockoffs the heat options are pretty lame. That metal strip in the top bunk. Check out foam boat decking on Amazon. You can get all sorts of colors. Stick on a strip that will pad it and remove the cold touch aspect👍 Curious how you guys like the trailer after a few trips👍. 3 Kids get a Yukon/Suburban or Expedition you’ll need the seats anyway. My 2019 Expedition has been pretty solid, heavy tow pack 9200lbs. Tows great. I find newbie trailer folks get pretty freaked out over trailer movement and get heavily sold on weight distribution hitches and such. These small trailers shouldn’t require that stuff and big reason experienced trailer folk like them.

Do you really need the stabilizing hitch? Looks like you could use some air bags on your truck.
@northidahoadventurers4323
@northidahoadventurers4323 Жыл бұрын
I think airbags would help. I’m probably just going to get a bigger truck. I will say that it’s night and day driving with and without the stabilizer. The trailer is swaying all over the place without it on the highway with just a little initial motion one direction or the other. It’s straight as an arrow with the stabilizer bars on. These campers are meant to take off road so it has a special articulating hitch. The problem is that it isn’t good for long high speed highway driving.

I was so close to purchasing their X11 model but after seeing it in person changed my mind. My impressions of the X11 were the suspension and frame were absolute beasts. Nothing USA made travel trailers comes close to it. Mostly everything else on the trailer felt cheap or there was no quality control at all. Some of these things include the door. It wouldn't close at all or correctly. The slide kitchen was wobbly and felt like it was going to break on its first use. There was no on-demand hot water even though the water lines are colored red for hot, blue for cold. There was no ensuite for an outdoor shower, even though it's advertised that it comes with one. Like you, the windows felt cheap and felt like it would break on its first trip out, etc... On top of that, the sales rep I was dealing with doesn't really know the trailer. Even I knew more about it than him. For a $50K trailer, I expected more. Good thing I went and saw it in person. For those of you considering this or other trailers in this class: Black Series, OP-15, OBI Dweller, etc., I suggest you go see it in person and get your hands on everything and in the trailer.

Yes, I agree about a lot of the parts being cheap. That has been a let down. Overall what needs to work seems to work. But I do think it’s overpriced. Im new to campers. My friends tell me most campers are crap made as well. So this essentially follows that trend, just with a new style. But I agree you would expect higher quality because of the cost. But in this case you are paying for the differentiation in the camper space. Probably not worth it. But we are enjoying it nonetheless.

It appears your weight distribution hitch is not distributing weight at all…..just set up for sway control (maybe). Normally, you cannot set up or take off the bars for weight distribution unless the tongue of the trailer is jacked way up, which seems impossible with this jack set up.
@northidahoadventurers4323
@northidahoadventurers4323 Жыл бұрын
I think I figured out my problem. I used the hitch without the bars once and that put it out of the right alignment. I’ve readjusted it to be level and always used the bars since then and I have no issues. If I need to take it off-road then I probably need a second pin assembly that doesn’t have the stabilizer bar setup. I can switch it out when I get to the off-road area.
