DO NOT fillet your salmon using this method! It wastes A LOT of meat. Up here in Alaska we call this the deckhand fillet method. They want to get it done asap and go home. They don’t care if they’re leaving a big chunk of meat behind. When you just slide your knife along the backbone you’re leaving A LOT of meat on either side of the backbone. You can actually see it in the video. Those are deep wedges of meat being thrown away. It only takes a couple of minutes to do it correctly and you’ll be shocked at how much more meat you get.

I've seen many posted on KZfaq but urs was quick n simple, thnx for not taking too much time to demonstrate such a simple procedure. i cut all kinds of fish for a living down in the market n salmon is the main fish that i fillet most and im also very good i can actually demonstrate how to fillet a salmon in three different ways in a shirt amount of time. i think ur salmon fillet demonstration should be more widely spread n get way more views than watch unprofessionals takin up more credit than us professionals who actually know what we're doing 👍

Good job. Actually the easiest method to fillet a salmon. We fillet salmon commercially using this method because this way you can fillet very fast. If somebody wants to see Finnish pro filletter so search "Risto Kosonen-kalankäsittely".
