13:56 gave me whiplash. It's my own fault, but trying to set up account switching (I have a native PAL account, but also an NA one because... the PAL PS3/Vita store sucks, and silly me wanted to acquire games legally) made the Vita hacking experience a nightmare for me

Soo biased towards the first game as it was my original ps2 experience. I always think of it as a cars…. Yeah the cars you have later in life will be more comfortable, maybe better put together… but your first… just holds a special place for me 👌🏼 great retrospective vid mate

Interesting, I remember MatPatt's video about the hidden message behind Smash games. When he was talking about Brawl, he said the hidden message was Sakurai's struggle with society. He is a man, but he still is obsessed with toys. Perhaps the gritty art style is Sakurai's way of trying to appear more adult to the world. By the time Smash Four and Ultimate come around, Sakurai has made peace with his life. The return to comic book and cartoon art style is him celebrating the games and characters he loves.

Personally id like a remake of DMC1 not that it needs one and what ever changes they make to it will likely mean the original will still be relevent for vastly different gameplay but still i think it would be cool Or you know port dmc3 again and make lady playable

funny thing is that it may be considered Falcom's worst title to some people (I found it ok), its still so much better than the games being released these days. Also Tokyo Xanadu 2 confirmed i believe.

Ratched 2 is So good.
@TheTattorack10 күн бұрын
I wouldn't say the development happened off-screen too much. If I remember correctly, in the beginning of Going Commando Ratchet's motivation for going to the Bogon Galaxy was still pretty selfishly motivated, which is how he got roped up working for Megacorp... a literal megacorp. He still has those tendencies all the way up to Deadlock, but refusing fame and fortune like he did in that game... I don't see Ratchet from the beginning of Going Commando refusing it.
@Kraftium10 күн бұрын
You got a good point there, and its probably why alot of people don't like the future games too much, PS2 ratchet always had that dawg in him He definately made a ton of progress between 1 and 2 still tho and I think that his change in voice helps depict that
@TheTattorack9 күн бұрын
@@Kraftium There's not much of a time jump between the PS2 games; about a year between the first and Going Commando. Perhaps another year between Commando and Arsenal, as there'd need to be time for the Secret Agent Clank show to kick off. There's probably a bit more time between Arsenal and Deadlocked. But I've read that between some of the PS3 games there can be as much as 5 years, certainly between Deadlocked and Tools, and I think I remember reading there being as much time between Crack in Time and Nexus. That means if we assume Ratchet starts out as an edgelord 16 year old teenager (because he acts like one), by the time of Tools he's already a young adult, and by the time of Nexus he'd probably be starting his 30s. I'm not sure how Lombax aging goes, but it'd be weird if Ratchet stays the same teen edgelord through all of that. A bland character that never grows up. Imagine Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars perpetually remaining the bratty know it all like when we first saw her. There wouldn't be any fans like there are now, that's for sure. Now... That said, what I DO miss is the overall edgy tone of the games themselves. The PS2 games were thick with corporate and media satire. 3 out of the 4 main villains from those games were entirely business and capital motivated. But it doesn't seem like we have villains like that anymore, and the world in the current games have lost their satirical edge.

I actually think it's one of their best games next to Trails. Their worst game I think is Ys: Memories of Celceta...mostly for the botched ending and the shallow antagonists (Still a very good game though).
@Kraftium10 күн бұрын
celceta does kinda just fall appart at the end but I think people are a little too harsh on it, ys 7 has a great story but the gameplay is far worse than celceta's

It rides the line between remake and reimagining I feel, some stuff like the certain stages are practically 1:1 even using the old map data but ultimately its doing it all in nexus's systems Its like how yakuza kiwami 1 and 2 are remakes of the first 2 games using yakuza 0 and 6s engines

Things I recommend to people who are about to start playing this game: 1) it's paced like a season of an anime, complete with it playing its (skippable) opening movie at the start of each chapter, so be prepared for a bit of a slow burn that then quickly ramps up; you will be able to fully utilize your swapping mechanics when you get your third character by the end of Chapter 2, and keep getting new abilities and modifiers as long as you keep upgrading your gear as new enemy drops come available; 2) yes, the characters seem generic at the start, but they become very fleshed out as new information comes available, recontextualing some of their apparently generic behavior as something that's actually a lot weirder; 3) I *heavily* recommend playing the Labyrinths (read: dungeons) with a focus on trying to do 100% Speedruns with as high a combo meter as possible, since b not only does that get you the best rewards and social stat buffs, the mechanics, enemy placement, and item placement are all immaculately designed to suit that playstyle. Personally, I describe this game as the exact midpoint between Persona 3 and Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance (which is possibly what it was intended to be the Vita's analog to), or maybe Fate/Stay Night and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I've always been a little fascinated with this game after seeing it for the first time on the Pslaystation Store. Between the clearly Vita-based graphics and otherwise not super interesting game design, it sorta left a seed of curiosity in my heart. I suppose I built up a bit of a fetish for games clearly made for the Vita being ported to much stronger devices. Seeing your video though, I think I'll actually give the game a shot one of these days.
