it's crazy how even 600 dollar guitars are considered on a 'budget'. guitars are crazy expensive. and in Canada, just about every guitar is 200 more vs American. guess how much that one is in Canada? I guess I was a bit off for this model anyways. it's 700 in Canada....which it's insufferable how over priced the Canadian market is for literally everything. sigh. nothing is really a budget guitar in Canada because like I said, it's always 200 more in Canada, regardless of which guitar. which is peak insanity. why it makes more sense to save up here

Thanks for the review. I got a few cheap acoustic guitars already but the thing that bugs me is the very intonation. When the strings are tuned open, they may be off-key when playing the frets. And i hate it. I had Yamaha FG800M ordered tonight.

First Off Dyce_ Congrats on your choice off becoming a Christian, IMO__the most important decision we can make in this life. Second , Thanks a Million for this lesson. Cool Song I always wanted to play it and your lesson here is Spot On. I will be practicing this for the next few weeks and on and on to get it down. I also loved you review of the Taylor K26CE, spectacular review and well worth watching. I have a bunch of guitars as well, all Acoustic and Acoustic/Electrics, only guitar I really would love to add is the K26CE. I have never had a Taylor, my Jam partner has several, I've been a Martin & Faith Guitar guy and love them but the K26CE is well, a very special guitar. Would work very well for the work I do here at RogueWave Prdtn's. Again Thank You you are a wonderfully talented musician and I love your stuff man. God Bless.... Mahalo

I was so sure you were going to go for finger playing. I play in church, but my favourite guitarist is Mark knophler and Eric Clapton. When we do the slower songs, I can get away with finger playing. However, to keep up with the band for volume and speed, I have to use the pick. I do lead playing and strumming. I couldn't imagine just playing with my fingers. Everything would sound muted. Mark knophler plays with fingers mostly, but he's a legend. Thank you for the reassurance that my pick playing is the way forward 😊

What I like about this review is the brutal honesty, thank you Dyce. SO I have a bunch of guitars and I play every day, 3-6 hours typically throughout the day, my jamming partner has always been a huge Taylor fan, I have been a Martin guy and I have a Faith Blood Moon that is really great as well. The Only Taylor that has caught my attention is this one, and so many reviews are spiked with super expensive microphones and tonally altered specially to sell them. I get that.... but what I wanted was a review JUST like this one, no BS, just show us all the relevant real world stuff. I am sold at this point, had not really heard the Expression II system but you nailed it. I love the mid's on this typically Taylors are too chimey for me, not this beauty. Again Thanks for the real deal in this review, now I will hunt one down and buy it. BTW - Your playing is SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!! I play a lot finger picking some covers, love and play Latin Jazz (ergo the mid's) but love a lot of blues and vintage rock, Clapton, Stones, Beatles, Petty, Fleetwood etc... anyway again thanks sooooo much!

Was looking for a fix when my shoulder always seems to act up while playing. I have over the years steadily raised the position of my guitar. I see now that I have to lower it again. What's more is that I in essence play a strat and do a lot of fast alternate picking while playing. I already train my shoulders regularly and I'm in fairly good shape, but seeing as I'm feeling it pretty much every time I practice my own songs I'll give your tips a go. Thanks man!

Thank you for sharing this. I'd love to see a video of your stretches! And, for those who aren't able to stand up for long periods of time, I recommend the guitar cushion in the classical positioning, even when playing the electric guitar. Just got back from doctor's office -shoulder tendonitis/subacromial impingement. Doctor's theory is that it's due to bad computer-desk posture, micromovements from guitar strumming causing wear n tear, and tennis practice sessions taking it over the edge. sucks getting old. I hope you're back to 100% and thanks again for sharing.

You seem like a big guy. You dwarf that acoustic. Maybe a concert grand would fit you better. Personally, I stand with my Strat, and sit with my acoustic dreadnought, making sure my arm is resting on the guitar at all times.

After you commit to playing a guitar, you can make some simple and relatively inexpensive upgrades (bone or synthetic nut and bridge, quality tuners)… to make it an outstanding guitar for what you originally paid. Excellent value and a keeper!

I recommend something other than Kyser. My Kyser capo worked ok for a while but then the spring broke. Kyser advertises that they have a lifetime warranty which covers a broken spring. But if you try to get a repair or replacement via their warranty they will ignore you. I know because I have been trying to get warranty service for months and haven't gotten any response from them.

I am NOT a fan of the N3 pups at all. I think they are dull and lifeless. I put a set of '68 Teles from Monty's Guitars in the UK in my 2014 Tele Elite for less than $300. It took a few weeks to get them to the US but they were worth the wait. I love the bridge pup but the neck pup isn't blowing my mind. It's nice but not quite what I was looking for. But he has several different Tele pups. I've heard the Danish Pete neck pup is awesome but haven't heard it live yet. I might try a Strat Fat 50's neck pup instead of the Tele neck pup. Or maybe a neck pup from Ron Ellis or Fralin. The Ellis pups are excellent but fairly expensive....like $350 per pup. I also have a Squier Tele that I put Custom Shop Texas Specials in. That is a nice sounding Texas blues type of Tele.

You are correct about shoulder injuries. They are harder to heal! I’m wondering if you have advice for a starter electric guitar so as I don’t have any issues. I play for stress relief and anxiety so no gigs for me lol! Just learning uke but want to eventually learn guitar ( acoustic and electric). Many thanks sir!!!😊

I think the 81/SA is EMGs best combination. Unless their X-series variants better them, I haven't made my mind up on that one. If anything else does what 81 and SA does I'd be equally interested. No matter the brand or whether it's passive or active. To my ear some Bill Lawrence pickups get close to the punch and clarity, namely L90/L45. For high gain rhythm SD Distortion can sound remarkably close to the 81. I urge everyone to keep an open mind and let your ears decide what sounds good.

You need to train your ears better. The signature bass/guitar riff starts on F, the flat 7. You totally got it wrong and were proud to announce it is exactly as the record, when it is mostly wrong except for the last few notes. Don't mean to be a dick, but you are essentially teaching people the wrong notes.

I’m a long time jazz drummer/bassist never had problems till I picked up the guitar, didn’t want to believe it was because of that, haven’t touched my strat for 6 days now and all my pain is gone, stressing on how to re approach it. Maybe I’m a better drummer than a guitar player!😂

Be aware that the Clapton Stratocaster with the boost of has 12 DB mid boost. The same as a hot Gibson Les Paul. As Humbucker power doubles with every 3 DB mid boost a 15 DB mid boost guitar has the double Humbucker power of a 12 DB mid boost guitar ( Gibson Les Paul) a 18 DB mid boost guitar has 4 times the Humbucker power of a 12 DB mid boost guitar. A 21 DB boost guitar has 8 times the Humbucker power of a 12 DB mid boost guitar. A 24 DB mid boost guitar has 16 times more Humbucker power than a 12 DB mid boost guitar. At 25 DB mid boost the Clapton Stratocaster is more than 17 times more powerful than a Gibson Les Paul Humbucker wise. The reason it starts at 12 DB mid boost is because it has Humbucker pick ups. Vintage noice less pick ups are Humbuckers. The Lace senzor pick ups that were there earlier were even more powerful than the Humbucker pick ups in the Clapton signature Stratocaster. So this is as far away from a Stratocaster you can possibly come. Clapton himself does not see it as a Stratocaster. He writes in his self biography he used a Stratocaster for 8 to 11 years. He started playing the Stratocaster in 1974 ( yes his earlier solo albums were recorded with a Gibson Les Paul ( see page 179 in his self biography ). In 1982 Clapton was fed up with the Stratocaster and signed for a Company called Strings and Things. They made his first signature guitars and had great Humbucker guitars. Clapton at this time was looking for the most powerful Humbucker guitar available. A year or 2 later Fender offers Clapton the most money ever given to a guitarist to sign with Fender. Clapton answers ” If you can make Me the absolute most powerful Humbucker guitar in the world I sign with Fender ”. Fender suceeds with making the absolute most powerful Humbucker guitar the world has ever seen and Clapton signs with Fender. Thats the guitar Clapton has used since early 1986 and became the Clapton Stratocaster in 1988. Its without a doubt the absolute most powerful Humbucker guitar in the world still today. Clapton played a Stratocaster from 1974 to December 1985 but has to deduct the contracted time with Strings and Things and therefore Clapton says he played a Stratocaster for 8 to 11 years. If you buy this guitar be sure to have a very powerful amp as a normal amp Will break down immidiately from the brutal power of the Clapton Humbucker Stratocaster.

Thanks man. I had rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder in October 2022. It took over a year to get back close to 100%, its still not 100%, I think shoulder pain is something I'm just going to have to live with. But I also play guitar almost every day. I also do PT almost everyday, to keep it loose. Sucks getting older, but I'm not going to give up playing guitar. Thanks for the tips

Been suffering from shoulder, neck and chest pain , and back pain , for over 12 years. I also suffer from fibromyalgia. It is a bit better now but still is painful after playing. I am using a stand now , but I still have pain. Had therapy (physio and osteopathy ) for over a year, as I have said I feel a bit better but I still have pain after I apply , feels like a sharp knife is piercing my back and I cannot breathe . When I breathe deeply one of my bones in the chest cracks.. At least now with the stand I have removed the weight of the guitar from my back. Unfortunately I am not playing anymore as. I used to play, the pain it is too bad.
