Was just looking through past videos and noticed I hadnt seen the Yamaha N1X that you had for so long. I assume you sold that? This Numa sounds fairly capable. Do you miss the N1X action or prefer this action?
@Comfort_One_Another
@Comfort_One_Another Күн бұрын
I don't miss the N1X because while the action was a real acoustic action, it didn't really work good as a midi controller which was how I was using it. I don't understand how Yamaha does their velocity mapping, but reaching all 127 midi velocities was not natural. I always had to rely on midi touch curve adjustments in the piano software I was using. Also, the speaker system on it was subpar. The action needed to be regulated after using it for several years and there was no real easy way to do that since the action doesn't slide out easily like an acoustic piano. You have to factor in calibrating sensors and it takes a trained technician if you could find one with experience working on a hybrid.

Very much appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll be 100 honest in that I was feeling that hybrids would be less of a maintenance need. Will definitely be considering that for my next piano.

Actually they just modeled the sound from a tape recording of a B211. I really don't understand how modeling works, but I know it's different from sampling in that they don't actually record/sample a real piano.

I have a vocal pitch monitor app so I can check to make sure I'm hitting the notes or at least getting close enough. If I was really off on a note I would just re-record to entire song. The human voice doesn't sound natural if it's pitch corrected and snaps to the notes perfectly every time. That's not the way air being pushed through our vocal cords is meant to sound.

This sounds so good. Is this how it sounds like with headphones or speakers? I want to buy a Kawai Hybrid NV10s for my living room. But the sound coming out from its speakers is not spectacular. I wonder what's missing. Do I need to add some extra monitors, buy VSL Steinway sample, or both? Do you usually play with or without headphones?

Hi. I currently have some very nice Genelec 8050 Studio Monitors and mostly play the piano through those since I don't have internal speakers on my Numa X Piano GT. I sold my Yamaha N1X. I use headphones when I don't want to bother other people with my playing at night. I'm not a fan of internal speakers on digital pianos because they usually don't sound good. I know someone that has augmented his NV10 with Genelec 8050s and really loves the sound.

Great video - I wonder if I might ask a tangential question please? I own the Numa X Piano and as the weighted action is causing aching in finger joints a wrists, was thinking if it would be possible to replace the Numa piano keybed with a Numa compact semi-weighted keybed. In your exploration for this task does it look possible to do such a thing? Seems it all comes apart pretty easily. Afaics the keybeds look similar in height and length as well as similar length of individual keys. Would appreciate your views on this...thanks

Very nice review ! I got that piano days ago, upgraded from Roland Fp10. The thing is that i don't feel the difference in the 6 keytouch mods. If i use the FIX mode, feels the same as the SUPER HEAVY mode. Is the Fp30x like that ? Or its just mine ? Should i return it ? 🤭 love your playing, very nice.
@Comfort_One_Another
@Comfort_One_Another Ай бұрын
I think yo should definitely feel a difference between the various touch sensitivity modes. Especially between the extremes. Heavy should take more force to produce a louder sound while light should take less downward force.
@jpdj2715
@jpdj2715 Ай бұрын
Did you notice that Signore Bello replaced this Roland by a Yamaha (mentioned in the introductory text under the video). I'm not into Roland, but is the "keytouch mode" just Roland jargon for "velocity curve"? If true, then changing modes does not alter the weighting of the keys in any way (which seems a reasonable assumption to me, at this price point). What resonates in my brain are the words of Stu Harris who reviews pianos in a piano shop YT channel context. Great musician, by the way. He once said, my paraphrasing, about a piano that you might feel it is too hard to make it sound loud and rather than alter its velocity curves, just set the volume louder. You see, with the piano's (the audio chain's) volume set to 1/4, you can never play fff. Set it to 100% (or 90% to prevent clipping) and it plays a lot lighter. The grams weight are nice to know and in real piano actions differ from instrument to instrument and their ages. What a pianist actually does is accelerate a hammer through a mechanism under each key. In a real piano action, as the length of the mechanism attached to a key changes from long to short (left to right), the resistance also changes. When you keep playing the same instrument you don't notice this consciously as you adapt your hitting of keys to the desired volume

@Comfort_One_Another
@Comfort_One_Another Ай бұрын
I listen to the 8050s almost daily. Best studio monitors I've ever owned. They have a very flat frequency response which is great for mixing. I add colorful EQ to the music I listen to through them, but leave the frequency flat for piano playing. The bass extension is great with the 8 inch drivers. The bass roll-off is low (38 -32 Hz) on the 8050 which means I don't have to play loud to hear the lower frequencies. They are built like tanks with two piece cast aluminum cabinets which could survive the apocalypse. 😀

I found the StudioLogic to be much better and the form factor to be much better also. The joystick effects is a big bonus also. Haven’t done much of an in-depth analysis like this but I find the Roland has resistance all the way down where as the Studiologic is much more pliable as I force down on the keys. Roland makes me want to play hard while the Studiologic brings sensitivity consciousness into my playing. I noticed it right away.

Great video! For great players, like yourself, everything you talk about is vastly important. For most of us players, I don't know if it makes that much difference. I would love to have a relatively nice small grand piano or even an upright Yamaha, but I know my purchase budget and Maintenace budget will never all it. Therefore the best keyboard/piano for me is the one I use. I doubt if I will ever outgrow the limitations of my keyboard. I am thinking of getting the SL NUMA GT. I watched the KZfaq video of the tour of the manufacturing facility in Italy and it impressed me. By far the most important thing is to get out of KZfaq and get on the keyboard, whichever one you have.

_Very_ interesting, insightful, and helpful review! I generally think of myself as preferring a heavier action, but I definitely prefer the TP-400Wes (of the Studiologic Numa X GT, _not_ to be confused with the TP-400 of various other offerings!) over at least the Roland PH4, Yamaha GHS, and Korg RH3. That said, I haven’t been able to try the Kawai RHIII of e.g the MP11 or Nord Grand(?) and would definitely find value in such a comparison! Now, _that_ said, the most useful thing in this video is the comparison with the actual Yamaha acoustic piano! I am blessed with three acoustic pianos and, interestingly, find that the newer the piano, the _heavier_ the action! In any case, I agree that whatever its technical deficits, the TP-400Wes is an absolutely _superb_ keybed, especially for the price! Cheers from a new subscriber!
