Everytime I export quicktime + alpha + straight... when I open the mov, it's all glitched... when I import the mov is perfect, but the preview is terrible. Why is that?

Troy Bowman 1 second ago Hi there, I am a fan of your channel Can you help me? I have a project from Adobe Illustrator, It is text. It came to me in black. I am importing it into after effects. In the comp setting I chose light violet color to work with. I drag in my text in to the comp and Invert the black to white. I toggle off the light violet color revealing the transparency and the white text. I could not get the media encoder to recognize my file for export. so I am using add to render cue to export. When it exports it exports with the light violet color and my text is back to black. You are an After Effects WIZARD can you help one of your subscribers with this dilemma? Respectfully thank you for your time

I tried your workflow. But everything works well on my side. I was able to export the "white text with alpha channel on APR4444" without problems. To find the problem, my advice would be to test the same workflow, but using only a "basic AE text layer" (instead of a text coming from Illustrator). Once the workflow work "without Illustrator", you can begin to add Illustrator in the equation. Pay attention, there are 2 ways to import an Illustrator file into After Effects: "Import as: Footage" and "Import as: Composition" (but both works well on my side anyway). Also try to use other colors than black and white. You can also follow the same workflow, but using a "Photoshop file" (does work on my side). If you don't know what's the AE option "Continuously Rasterize" is (the little "sun"), learn a little about. You can try to check / uncheck the option in AE on the "Illustrator layer" (but the workflow works well on both state anyway). That's the path I would follow to find where the problem comes from.

Thank you very much. I had this problem with white lines around the shadow effect and when I put it over footage it through up a white BG.

Not sure what you mean, but maybe you can try to set the blend options in the menu "Object > Blend > Blend options > Spacing > Specified steps".
