How about major and minor key interchange or borrowing on relative key? I hope to see a good teacher explaining these.
@LimitlessKeysPiano3 күн бұрын
Great question! I typically do not think of music in the context of borrowing chords from other keys. My brain just struggles to process what I am playing like that. Since there are only 7 diatonic notes in a major scale there are only 5 non-diatonic notes. So its easier for me to think of chords built from non-diatonic chords as "flat 6" or "sharp 4" for instance. If the chord is built of of a diatonic note but the chord is not diatonic for I would just call it a "minor 4" or a "half diminished 2" if that makes sense. Lastly, if I am playing secondary dominants or major/minor 2-5-1 my focus is not the key but the target chord regardless of the key. I can approach an E minor that same int the key of C as I do in the key for G or D. So the target chord is usually my focus!

How to use this tastefully without altering the melody structure on top and making it palatable for the audience?
@LimitlessKeysPiano3 күн бұрын
Great question. Hopefully I can do a video on this soon. The basic concept though is that you keep the melody note on top and you put some of the other notes beneath the melody. Sometimes, you have to omit notes.

As a novice player your videos have been helping me unlock so many more possibilities with my playing! I wanted to ask if there's a way to systematically work your way up from simple 1-3-5 esque voicings to inversions, add9/add2's and such? Is there anything I should prioritize first?
@LimitlessKeysPiano5 ай бұрын
Glad to help! Great question. Yes, please start with basic inversions of 1-3-5 triads. 1st, 2nd and 3rd inversion before trying to add to the chords. It will be confusing to try to mimic or learn advanced chords that use 7,9,11 and 13s, especially when inverted, without the basics. I think add9/add2 is a good place to start, but I would recommend going up in sequential order. 7,9,11 then 13! Hopefully that makes sense. Feel free to ask any other questions.

How many years have you been playing?
@LimitlessKeysPiano5 ай бұрын
Hmmm I have been playing for "13 years" but at least 9 of them have been wasted. I didn't really take it seriously. Some years I barely touched my keyboard. It's only been over the past 4 years that I have really been practicing consistently. I would say 1-2 years worth of basics + 4 years really going in, would be a good metric. So I think one could get here in 5-6 years if they really were intentionally.

@LimitlessKeysPiano6 ай бұрын
Hey man! Thanks for watching. Sorry I won't break this down in specific keys because then I would have to do every that someone asks. If you understand the concept then its simple to apply to any key. In F# your 2 chord is Ab/G# minor, the 2nd dominant is Eb. The substitution is Eb7/G. Run through this process with all the chords and you will be good! I would recommend you taking the time to understand and implement it yourself rather than depending on me or other channels to teach you. The more dependent you become on us, the more it will hurt your growth!
