It's very far from great. The writing and plot is paper thin, the character decisions are crazy (and folks have the lunacy to complain about Prometheus & Covenant). The hypocrisy of the audience is laughable, and it's a great shame that original writing and story telling is stifled by such. Prometheus and Covenant were far greater movies, both technically and professionally, as well as original and thought provoking.

A very disappointing movie. Bad script. Horribly written characters with absolutely no redeeming points. Not enough Alien too much of the Face Huggers. Too many nods and elements from the other movies. The end was a cluster f that made no logical sense. And... WHY does (almost) every Alien movie have to end with a gun toting female wearing a tank top? Seriously. New ideas hurt too much? Only decent points to the movie was that it looked good. Direction, sets and the practical effects were done well.

Absolutely agree with everything you said. I just saw it yesterday. I loved the first hour or so when they were on Jackson's Star but as soon as they entered that ship and the facehuggers appeared the film went straight downhill. The whole cast seemed incompetent and like they were trying too hard or something. Although I did like the android character Andy. He was probably the only redeeming quality of the film.

Sounds like you were expecting something totally different. Once you decide to get rid of your unrealistic expectations, understanding that YOU didn't film the movie, you'll realize a lot of movies are actually pretty enjoyable. Currently, you're just stuck in this rut of "how can I hate this too?", which is insanely unhealthy.

A lot of this is actually wrong. They went to Namibia because they couldn't shoot in Australia because of weather. They did shoot Furiosa movie in Australian desert. How can you say that Fury Road used a lot of digital compositing and Furiosa used a lot of greenscreen when its the same tools being used ? Funnily, now the BTS videos are coming up, one can tell Furiosa actually is actually very practical... The biggest difference between Fury Road and Furiosa is the lighting and the post processing. But just fyi, they did shoot the Stowaway sequence for real using cranes for flying attackers. They did flip the car on the truck. They did explode the glider over the truck. They did set a Dementus goon on fire during the Trojan Truck scene. They did flip Furiosa car. They did create Furiosa hand on the chain. The six wheels car is real. The suspended truck scene is real (it was 90° inclined and the actress did slide on it). One other thing that could explain why CGI looks sometimes bad in Furiosa is what the movie shows. In Fury Road you have 20 cars getting in the middle of the desert for the whole movie. Furiosa features already more bikes than Fury Road cars... and more locations, with more people. And nobody realised AI on the kid or the Bullet Farmer being complete CGI.

I'm entirely convinced that people can't tell the difference between real and CGI in this comment thread. People are using examples of practical stuff for how CGI looks fake.
@javierromero9657

Quite true, I'm ashamed to admit that I thought that myself, I thought that the whole war rig was CGI or that the scene where the warboy car explodes and flips over on the war rig was also CGI. Thanks to the behind the scenes I know that much more of what I thought was CGI was real scenes and that has made me appreciate this movie even more, which even if it doesn't surpass Fury Road it does very well in many ways.

Nice video, but I think another major factor is the bad animations and the lack of proper physics that really adds to the fakeness of it all!

I honestly didn't notice anything particularly bad in the animations or the movements, however when I saw the backgrounds, especially the close-ups of the citadel, I literally wanted to vomit. The citadel in Fury Road was made completely with CGI and at the last minute and it still looked better. For the rest, the movie is very good.

If you look at all the behind the scenes photos you’ll see they got stuck with heavy cloud cover throughout a big portion of the shoot and had to resort to artificial lighting outside. Then when you add a new CG sky and background in the actors don’t quite match it because they weren’t lit with sunlight to begin with. I think it was mostly just unfortunate circumstance.

They’re two very different types of movies for sure. Furiosa has a mythic fable-esque quality to it that I think lends itself to a more stylistic style of CGI and editing. I think it’s nice contrast to the more structurally straightforward and grounded Fury Road.
@javierromero9657
@javierromero9657 3 күн бұрын
It's funny, but I think the opposite. In Furiosa, the most spectacular thing you see is some cars turning over and the truck falling into the bullet farm, while in Fury Road we see Joe's entire army, the tremendous explosion of the people-eater's truck, and the spectacular end of the War Rig followed by the crash of the Doof Wagon. For me, Furiosa is much simpler in that sense, but I understand your point.

The problem is not CGI. The problem is color grading. The colorists in that movie seems to have 0 idea on how to color match the CGI and the environment. Which is what ACTUALLY contribute to fakeness or obvious CGI. If the colorists are actually competent, then this problem wouldn't happened. Just so people can understand, color grading/matching CGI is actually way easier than real subjects filmed by camera. This is because camera has different codecs to work with and different color science. CGI however, is usually coded in 16 bit EXR with ACE color space to ensure uniformities. 16 bit EXR is significantly easier to grade than something like 10 bit log file or 12 bit ProRes RAW. Plus ACE color space was developed exactly for ease of color grading/matching. So yeah, the fault is on the colorists.

First, its not just a few colorists, its a whole professional team of dedicated artists, sometimes from multiple studios. Its not their fault. Its the fault from the rich guys in suits who want the movie looking like how they want it. The color artist have nothing to say, but just do what they are told to do so dont blame them....and colorgrading/matching is really hard to do if it has to look real. Matching the colors of shadows and reflections and digital FX like particle sims form multiple film layers? good luck man...try getting that right in the short amount of time artists gets. You think to simple of it.

Australia isn't as baron as people think. So to make it look more in line with fury road they replaced the background with more dead looking desert. Australia is dry sure but there's heaps of desert plants growing anyway. Doesn't help that we've also had a lot of rain in the last couple years.

literally the only accident done in CGI from furiosa is the fall of the war rig in the bullet farm for obvious reasons all the other accidents were with practical effects as in the rest of the saga. idk, I think it's mostly just very stylized. yeah, there was some dodgy CGI in Furiosa... but there was also dodgy CGI in Fury Road. Go watch the beginning again when Max is trying to escape the Citadel. That was as bad or worse than the worst CGI in Furiosa. I think people nitpick too much. Was the CGI perfect? No, obviously not, but it seems like y'all want to talk about every aspect of a movie EXCEPT for most important part which is "did you have a good experience in the theater?" because thats all that matters. Were you moved or inspired or in awe of what you experienced? Were you excited or scared or sad or surprised or on the edge of your seat? Thats the magic of film. Not "as you can see the composited a rock in the bottom left frame of that scene. thats bad storytelling."

2:09 George Miller always wanted to shoot Mad Max: Fury Road and Furiosa in Australia, particularly Broken Hill, as a means of creating local industry within the country. At the time of shooting however, the ordinarily dry outback setting got more rain than it had in decades, and the whole town blossomed with flowers and greenery, ergo the move to shooting in Namibia as after months of waiting the shooting location never dried up again. When it turned out Furiosa was going to be shot in Australia, the state government granted the production approximately 150 million dollars, which is the greatest amount ever given to a film production by the government of New South Wales. I have personally met people within filmmaking circles who have acted as safety coordinators / stuntmen within the production as it was shot in Broken Hill and in studio at Sydney
