The P4/Celerons at 85 Watts yet my 3700X would blow it away by multitudes at 65w, lol My Athlon 64 X2 3200+ would walk all over it at the time (And at only 2.6GHz) and still ran at only about 95 watts....... Even at the time in HL2 my Athlon 64 ran the game butter-smooth maxxed out, running at the time on the SGI 1600sw I owned at the time and ran all my games at 1600x1024.

I'm still running my 2009 Core2 Duo iMac as my main computer, with on board NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB! Browser = Chrome, OS = 10.12, which is about as far as I can push my old software. I kept it to avoid paying the subscription fees after Adobe walled off the Suite in the Cloud; I'd already paid for those programs, and didn't want to knuckle under to a GD software "Pusher"! (add up the $60/month "All Apps" package, and I've saved about $10,000! Tell me I was wrong.) Plus, either because I'm running 'native' or due to the many weaknesses and compromises of the Cloud, I'm getting far faster productivity at 3.06 GHz than all of you Cloud-dwellers. Yeah, there are some things I can't do because Netflix and Amazon Prime will no longer let me watch their movies, but there are plenty of other streamers who will; imagine how much I miss them (NOT!). There's nothing wrong with the tech, but the Geeks who run Bartertown don't want to let me in. I'm free of the hated Cloud, and probably out of reach of at least some of the latest Advertiser & Government oversight, so I'm gonna run this box into the ground!

an even better solution for these old iMacs is Linux Mint. Back in Dec 2022 an older guy at work (uncle Frank) finally got the internet. But, his old PC (one of those tan desktops from late 90's / very early 2000's) was not working for him. So, another guy (DJ Delt-It) offered uncle Frank his 2007 iMac that his kids were playing around with. This 2007 iMac has a 20" monitor CPU = 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 6 GB of DDR2 RAM ATI Radeon HD 2400XT 128 MB the final OS X version was 10.9.5 and would update no further, also Firefox wouldn't update past something like v89. soooo i bought him a 500GB SSD and a NAICA00476 bracket to convert 2.5" to 3.5" iFixIt had the instructions for changing a HDD which wasn't the most fun, but it was cold outside so i had ample time to patiently swap it out. the good thing about not wiping the original drive is that if installing Linux Mint didn't work, i could always put the old drive back in. the version of Mint available at the time was v21, i prefer the less flashy MATE desktop environment. to boot from the USB with Mint 21 MATE on it, i think i had to press CMD+C or Option+C. Up came the option to boot from USB or HDD, select the USB. Initially i was very worried because there was no indication that anything was happening (on a PC all kinds of code would be seen running all over the screen, indicating that stuff is happening), i think all that was on the screen was a dash flashing at the top of the screen and nothing else. I decided just to wait longer, glad I did. After a full 2 minutes, (maybe 3) up came the Linux Mint 21 desktop - hallelujah !! From there, i was able to connect to the wired internet for the Live test-drive. After a short time, i did the install with the internet disconnected and rebooted to get all the updates. His version is supported until 2027 and gets regular security updates to system and runs the latest Firefox and Chrome. Is uncle Franks old iMac the fastest machine ? hell no is it good enough to check email, do banking and watch KZfaq ? hells yeah the speed is not bad at all considering how slow the hardware is compared to today's, but it has a very small foot-print on his desk, we added a pair of CREATIVE Pebble desktop speakers for better sound (white of course), i don't like the tiny size of the 20" screen, i like at least a 27", but hey good enough for uncle Frank, beets the hell out of his old 15" deep-dish monitor from his tan desktop. i also installed the browser add-on called Enhancer for KZfaq, which enables many settings like 480p for the default YT resolution, dark themes, etc. Merry Christmas uncle Frank

My first custom gaming PC had an E2600. It was old then. I think Intel was on Haswell when I was fooling with it. I started learning about computers but the parts were so expensive compared to my income. I went on Amazon and for $11 got a q6700. It was a nice upgrade. I had also started learning to overclock. It was so much fun pushing those chips past stock speeds. Now everything is already pushed to the limit and its much more boring.

Bluetooth tethering is a great thing when using older tech. Used it myself, connecting an Asus pda to internet by tethering it to my android device. Worked like a charm, sadly the browser on that pda is completely useless nowadays

Lol. I was actually watching this video on an old 27 inch IMac (mid 2011) but it's a 2.7 GHz Intel core i5, 8 gigs of memory 1333 mhz ddr3 with an AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 mb. MacOS Sierra (10.12.6) Bought it off of Craigslist for $120 (USD) Had no trouble installing Chrome for a Browser and it runs KZfaq videos well. No problems with videos at 1080p. Buffers a bit running one in 4K but that could be either the system or the internet connection.....

You should consider making videos regarding the Nvidia GT710 and GT730. The GT710 has 2 Gb DDR3 Ram. The "new" GT730 has 4 Gb DDR3 Ram. The 4Gb Version can be purchased from Zotac.

Watching the video on a 2010 iMac - Mac OS Ventura via Opencore with the OS on an SSD that replaced the DVD drive. It's as fast as you would wish. The local landfill must be feeling quite frustrated.

I went from Q6600 to 4770K and currently still on 9900KS. I have never been more amazed by a CPU other than the Q6600. It was mind-blowing at the time. I still have it on a ABIT Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI!
