Ooo your Zinnias! We just can’t seem to grow them here in the west of Ireland. Dahlias do well for me, though. And, grass!! We do great grass growing over here too LOL. Don’t think there are any grass seed farms here tho’? Just grass eating livestock 😂. The grass on our cottage acre is super tall & in seed because we leave most of it as meadow to be cut in September. Thankfully no cucumber beetles here 😅

💛💚💜🖤 Hello Kim, hello from France, Hope you're well. I was carding while watching your video and it was nice to see the animals, sun 's shining, smily faces. Here the weather is just awful, grey, rain, grey and just a bit of sun. Well such is life. Anyway, it was nice to hear your voice and I really like that white and dark grey fleece . It's always interesting to watch animals been sheared. Thank you for sharing. Speak to you soon.💗💙❤🧡

Thank you so much for your review on the espinners. I completely agree with the challenges that came up. I will need to practice more on my espinnner. But I felt that for the thread I wanted to create, I went back to my drop spindle with stone whorl. With the stone whorl, I am able to strength test it as I'm making my thread. I can make fine thread on my espinner, but I agree that the uptake felt really slow, and I just got a bunch of overspun pig tails in my bobbin. I'm a beginner spinner, so when a problem happens, I had to frequently have to stop, fix, unwind, and figure out what happened until when the next issue would pop up. I'm learning a new tool, and I understand that. So it'll come with time. I'll just have to save for my dream spinning wheel, and spindle spin in the meantime.

I just got some of Sally Fox's naturally colored cotton yarn and am excited to start working with it. The colors are gorgeous. Been too scared to try spinning the fiber so far because I had a meh experience trying to spin some a few years ago 😅
@ewethfulfiber
@ewethfulfiber Ай бұрын
Jaime! So excited you got some yarn from Sally. Spinning cotton is definitely not super easy. I'm happy to hand card a couple punis for you. I think it made learning a bit easier, and I have tons of cotton! Do you spin longdraw already? That also makes it easier. Fastest twist you can get on your wheel with the absolute lightest take up!
@Wee_LadybugKnits
@Wee_LadybugKnits Ай бұрын
@@ewethfulfiber omg Kim that's so generous of you. I do have blending board so I should probably have tried making rolags instead of from top 🤣. I've done a little bit of supported long draw, but true woolen spinning is something I need to work on.
@ewethfulfiber
@ewethfulfiber Ай бұрын
@Wee_LadybugKnits you really have to spin cotton long draw because the staple length is so short. And using hand cards to make cotton punis is the ideal. Cotton top is incredibly hard to start with so don't be too hard on yourself. Supported longdraw will work just fine, but no short forward!
@Wee_LadybugKnits

@@ewethfulfiber thank you for the tips! (and apologies for the slow response 😳) I think I'll hold off on attempting cotton again until I've gotten more longdraw practice. Save myself some frustration 🤣

My problem is my spinning, even after four years is not as consistent as commercial yarn so the gauge is usually off or the end where they need to be sewn together or not aligned, but I know if I want to gift it. I just need to make a cow or a scarf or a hat.

Love the shawl!❤ Totally understand the slowing down efforts! Life is hectic enough before even considering social media 😅 I actually found a used wheel to start my spinning wheel journey (no idea of maker, sadly, so will be difficult to get more bobbins 😝) it had been stored away for ages, possibly never actually used, (I’m guessing it’s from ca 1980 but that’s total guesswork since owner had no idea either) so metal parts needed some TLC to get the uptake to be smooth(er) but I have learnt and understood SO much in just the 5 days I’ve had it!❤ Decided that I will def need another newer wheel too 😬😬😬 😂 Looking forward to your next vlog!❤ Anita

Is there any reason you couldn't use the wheel unstained?
@ewethfulfiber
@ewethfulfiber 3 ай бұрын
You could. I used my Kiwi like that for years before I finally stained it. But the stain did help to protect it from old and dirty which will seep in. You could do a clear type pull on it to just to protect the wood.
