which part of the high frequencies ? RTA data needed , male to female hearing roll off is more on males , less on females but which part of the high frequencies ? pink noise sent to the vintage system , REW can easily be connected to run direct frequency response of the systems amplifiers and further testing on the speakers , also the cable can easily be tested with the REW testing can check which part of bass or treble where it starts to lower +- dB or raise at

As far as cables are concerned, you are about to fall down the rat hole of audiophile snake oil. A speaker cable does not affect the sound at all, provided it is not too long and has a large cross-section of 2.5 to 4 square millimetres. The idea that a silver cable delivers more high frequencies than a copper cable is nonsensical. You have fallen for a confirmation bias caused by one of the most popular audiophile myths. Just enjoy your beautiful hi-fi system, keep your turntable stylus and cassette deck heads clean and don't look for improvements in the wrong place.

Fun watch! Unvarnished, authentic presentation. Good luck with the cassette deck. They are not ever going to make a comeback. Too finicky to get them running and too complex for small batch production. LOVE THE EFFORT THOUGH!

Hi Emily, did the speaker cables go through the burn-in process? Wonder if that might change your impression on the cables. Anyway, thank you for sharing your experience. Love to see more content like this in future! ❤

Yes I think silver wires should go through burn in process for it to be a bit tamed in the high frequencies.

Hi! You make a valid point, these cables were made on the day so had not been burnt-in. Trying a pair of burnt in silver cables is definitely something I will try in the future. I am very much enjoying the AudioQuest G2 at the moment though!

Hint for cassettes that haven't been played for a while, grip each end between your thumbs and folded index fingers (like you are forming fists) and slightly twist the cassette housing back and forth a couple of times. This should free up the cassettes internals.

With the Take Up Spindle and the Rewind/Feed-Out Spindle - you already have the 3D printer plan that fits correctly - simply print another and replace the original one on the Feed-Out Spindle - Voila - matching hubs! With the Kate Bush tape - try packing the tape (FF all the way to the end and then REW all the way to the beginning) and then try playing it again. It could also be that the machine on which it was originally recorded was playing too fast (which would make it sound slow on a working deck). Best of luck.
@futureshopuk
@futureshopuk 8 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comments and helpful advice! We thought about 3D printing the other spindle and replacing the one on the left as well, but we couldn't actually get the original one out of the deck to replace it! And we tried packing the Kate Bush tape but when we tried to rewind it, the tape got stuck halfway through and it wouldn't rewind any further.

Sound like a bad belt or pinch roller....
@Kane26510
@Kane26510 8 ай бұрын
If the tape unravels like that, it's a good indication that the CAPSTAN and PINCH ROLLER are moving the tape over the playback head, but the TAKE UP SPINDLE isn't working right. Likely, you'll need to replace at least one belt in the tape deck. Earth, Wind, and Fire - Awesome group, but you also had a ROLLER DISCO LP, which were custom-made for a system like this. Too bad about the 2M Red. I want to try one myself, but just haven't pulled the trigger on one yet.

The turntable belt didn't melt - it just deteriorated with age - happens all the time; belts are a regular maintenance item. The very sticky residue cleans up nicely with WD40. With cassette tapes, what you can do is "pack the tape." FF to the end, then rewind it to the beginning and then press play. Obviously, if the belts have deteriorated, they'll have to be replaced. It also looks like some of the lamps in the tuner display are out. Overall, a nice unit - any all in one with a standard removable head shell is a better one.
@futureshopuk

Ah fair enough! And yes we noticed that with the lamps, replacing them will be a task for another time!

Not exactly HiFi, I remember those were called music centres. HiFi means high fidelty which does not apply to lower all in one systems especially from years ago. The way to go with real high quality sound is seperates. Cd player, Turntable, Amplifier anywhere from around £200 each or up to thousands each.

Get some linen based cleaning buds, you can clean the rollers in the cassette without bits of fluffy cotton strands coming off and getting stuck inside.

It´s better to get separates (integrated amplifier, turntable, tape deck). If something fails you just swap.

Yes we can see where you are coming from! With this series though, it was very much about finding equipment within an affordable price range and to also fit with the size and match the decor of Emily's room! Having limited room space means an all in one system like this can be more pratical.

Sounds like the azimuth screw on the head could do with adjustment and a bit of IPA on the head would give it a clean up.
@futureshopuk
@futureshopuk 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the advice! We are slightly wary about using IPA on it, to be honest!
@Cornz38
@Cornz38 8 ай бұрын
On the head, it's fine. dip a cotton ear bud in PURE 99.99% IPA and give the tape head a gentle rub. If you see brown junk, repeat with a new earbud until clean. They don't need to be dripping wet, just damp with IPA. Trust me, IPA is the best and safest way to clean them. Also, give the pinch and capstan rollers a clean with some. I usually let the rollers turn and hold a swab moistened in IPA against it, gently.@@futureshopuk
@Cornz38
@Cornz38 8 ай бұрын
IPA is FAR less risky than either acetone which destroys styrene based plastics, MEK or any of the organic solvents. Meths is again, not ideal, because it's not pure. IPA is great for removing oxide off playback / record and erase heads. It won't attack plastics, evaporates leaving no residue and is cheap! Although keep it away from naked flames Goes up like Hiroshima...@@futureshopuk

I would replace the stylus head, you can choose different brands also. I have the same ortofon styus (red) and is a good one. Not the top but really good. I hope you can find new replacement belts for the tape deck. Waiting for next episode.

IPA and a cotton bud will do a better job than a cleaning cassette, because you can clean the pinch roller, capstan, and play/record head. IPA is also good for getting rid of belt residue. Talking of belts, it's likely that you'll need to replace the cassette player belt(s) too. I've done similar work on my channel (including shoebox cassette players, which have similar mechanisms to your cassette player). Good luck with the awesome vintage music center. I really love the blue display and VU meters.

I know what you mean, but you coukd be suprised how some of those systems sound. Good specifications is not alway a good sound. The meaning of "HiFi" is sometimes misleading.
@ENGLISHISBEST
@ENGLISHISBEST 8 ай бұрын
@cjmillsnun compare my 3 grand system to a 10 grand one is all down to top components which can vary in price. The more you pay the better. But music centres are not in the hifi bracket they are just everything thrown into one box with cheaper components & mass produced, hifi is in the realms of hi tech with pricier components. There is a vast difference. Someone should expose their system to her after she has listened to that music centre (not hifi)
