Sorry, I have more questions. What do you use the laptop and the desktop for? Is it a good setup? I'm looking into possibly getting a desktop for vet school, I already have a MacBook. How do you balance your work-life schedule? What do you do in terms of studying? Wha is your best advice for all those pages of reading and homework you do? Along with making sure you spend time with friends and go out and stuff like that.

There are a lot of apartment options as well as house rentals in the area and there are two great shelters in the area as well. The Hermitage is a cats only sanctuary and Pima Animal Care Center has lots of cats available as well!

can you also please recommend a good veterinary book that covers these topics like veterinary receptors, different types of receptors in the body, different drugs for which receptors, which drugs should or should not be given during which situation and mode of receptor response, contradictions and drug respone...I'm a second year student and our university notes only focus on definitions and drug functions, i dont have a clue what is cox1,cox2,gaba,ach recptor ,noephinerine,ephiphrine,act,a1.beta etc....I would be grateful if you can recommend a easy and simple veterinary or medical book that covers these topics..if you have simple notes that would be helpful as well. thanks.

I got admitted couple weeks ago but there is one thing I’m hesitant about. Since U of A is three years, doesn’t that mean I’ll be getting less experience than other schools? I’m talking in terms on clinical rotations and hands on stuff. Do you think UofA offers just as much experience to students compared to a traditional 4 years program? Also thank you for these videos! Really helpful to see an inside look at the program.
@farfetchedadventures3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian! So sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Even though we finish in 3 years you’ll get LOTS of hands on experience right from the very beginning. We have hands on experience with animals within the first couple weeks of school and throughout every semester PLUS a full clinical year of rotations. The hands on component of this curriculum is really great and it’s definitely NOT less than a traditional 4 year program.

I'll be graduating this winter from a known university. I was wondering what kind of advice you would offer for a student like me aspiring to get into vet school?
@farfetchedadventures3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Vanessa! Having diverse veterinary experiences is always a good thing but having experiences unrelated to veterinary medicine is also really helpful. Get involved in community projects, take on leadership roles, volunteer, travel and be intentional about your extracurricular activities to help you become a well rounded applicant. I would say that the ability to communicate clearly and quickly adapt to a variety of situations is one of THE most important skill sets for anyone in the veterinary profession. Getting comfortable with public speaking (even if you’re speaking to an audience of 1) is a HUGE benefit and building that skill is vital whether you’re talking with clients or colleagues. Check out a speaking group like Toastmasters! I worked as a backcountry EMT for many years and that really helped me hone my communication skills in some unpredictable settings. I can honestly say that is a skill I draw on daily. You don’t have to become an EMT or a public speaker but, do things that challenge and sharpen your listening acuity and verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Hi Ana :) Thanks so much for reaching out. There are a few good ones. For strictly K9 anatomy, the book Guide to the Dissection of the Dog by Evans de Lahunta is a good one. For a broader spectrum of species there are several to choose from. Textbook of Veterinary Anatomy by Dyce, Sack and Wensing is a good one. i also reference the Saunders’s Veterinary Anatomy flash cards regularly as well as their coloring book. If you want a combination of anatomy AND physiology, I highly recommend Functional Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals by Reece and Rowe as well as the book I mentioned in the video, Pathological Basis of Veterinary Disease by Zachary. I hope that helps! Thanks so much for hanging out with me here on the channel! Let me know what books you end up checking out.

I recently applied to vet school this past September so I am eagerly awaiting to know if I have been accepted this month. As a prospective vet student I am curious on how you study? I am currently finishing my degree in veterinary technology (and I have a Bachelor’s degree as well) so I was wondering how does studying in vet school compare to undergrad and/or vet tech (nursing) school. What is the best way to retain the information you learn? How do you study for exams? How do you take notes? A video on study tips would be very helpful. I find your videos really interesting. They give me an inside look of what to expect :) Thank you!!!!
@farfetchedadventures3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks so much for your comment and questions! I’m happy to discuss all those things in a video but i’ll also answer some of them here. Vet school is like drinking out of a fire hose. The amount of information can feel overwhelming and managing your time and study habits is critical. Certain aspects require rote memorization but a large part of it is assimilation of many pieces to make the whole. Using various methods to consume large amounts of material, effective note taking and techniques for retention such as spaced repetition are all key elements for effective studying. I can cover all of these in an upcoming video :) I’ll have my fingers crossed for your vet school application! Let me know when you hear the good news! 😃

i did. I think it’s a fantastic program especially given its flexibility. If i had to pick out a drawback it’s that if you want to watch your bachelors degree, you have to complete a portion of the program on campus. Otherwise, you can earn your associates online and complete your clinical mentorships with an approved doctor/clinic.
