When you passed the swords in how did you get a perfect greenscreen key removal (as guys were holding the sword ends) also did u model a 3d sword to materialise those effects around
@blenderconch
@blenderconch 7 күн бұрын
Good questions. No greenscreen involved here. The camera is on a tripod and never moves, so I can take parts of the video where the helpers are not on screen and use that to cover up and hide the helpers when they are on screen. In the "composite reveal" part of the video, those coloured regions are the actual masks I used for that. For the swords and fingers issue, you are correct - I made 3D models of the swords, and the particles are pulled to the surface of those models. The 3D swords are never visible, but the particles are. If I recall correctly, there were enough bright particles covering everything that the transition moments where the helpers' fingers might have been at risk of being visible during the hand-off were a total non-issue. i.e. the fingers of the helpers did not really present a problem I needed to solve.

Can you set axis rotations to the same keyframes to make it rotate on all axis at the same time?

Yes, that should work just fine 👍

@@blenderconch ok so I reviewed this video again before I was going to start...........Then.......... (daunting prospect) do you have a website or blog somewhere where you can send the project file too. This is very complex. You have 6axis but how have you set them up. You show some detail but I'm blender user for 2 years and I don't understand. Would be easier if you had project file

@@trulgn Can do. Sorry - took me a while to find the old file, but here's one I think I used in the tutorial. I hope this helps. drive.google.com/file/d/1udfd5w6F59GFag_W8YDMRezzk58nPMbX/view?usp=sharing

Thank you, the finish button doesn't work for me Blender 4.1
@blenderconch
@blenderconch 10 күн бұрын
Oh! Thanks for letting me know! Does this happen regardless of how you set up the shell, or did it happen on one particular shell only? If the latter, I may have some sort of edge case bug to fix, otherwise it sounds like I'll need to figure out an update for Blender 4.1. I'm still on 3.4.1 myself, but I might install 4.1 and try to come up with a fix maybe in the next week or so.
@shaunswildlife
@shaunswildlife 9 күн бұрын
@@blenderconch oh yes , its just an edge case, the default shell finishes just fine, I'll change what I was trying to do, I probably made a line overlap the central axis.

(Sorry for the slow reply!) Sounds good. I hope some kind of tweak made it work for you. If you happen to know a way to reliably replicate the problem, please let me know. If I can repeat the error, I might be able to address it somehow in the code. No pressure, though - sounds like it was something subtle and rare.

It says that it is unsafe to download. Why is this? and has anyone else had this problem?
@blenderconch
@blenderconch Ай бұрын
Chrome gives me the same warning (about the file being "executable") when I download it. I think it must be noticing the .py file extension, which is a plain text file that contains Python code - not actually executable on its own in the way that a .exe file is. I think the browser is just being overly cautious about what it considers a potential danger. If you're a programmer, or if you know someone who is, you can easily verify that there's no funny business in the Python code.

I just realised that you can't really close of the tip. When making flatter snail shells with only 2-3 coils, there would be a big hole in the tip, adding an option to close this would be great for when creating lots of different shells
@blenderconch
@blenderconch 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! I might try sometime to see if I can figure out how to automate that.

you should include a few base textures that you can modify the color nodes of, so that people don't have to apply their own textures. This would make scenes with lots of shells much easier and faster to make

Unbelievably good tutorial! I'm still having issues rotating my object (i´m new to blender). Is it possible for me to send you the file via e-mail? For what i saw online, this is a common struggle (rotating a child object relative to its local axis while the parent rotates arround a world axis). Thanks in advance and you just got a new subscriber.

For some reason I am having trouble with new wedges and subwedges either appearing disconnected if the value is too low, or if you set the value high enough to fix this the edges begin clipping into one another. Does anyone have an idea where I am going wrong?

For anyone who is struggling, I recommend pausing the video to take notes as you go along. It will help you make sense of everything and truly take it in rather than making you feel like you're just following steps that you don't understand.
