But what I have seen on youtube, it remind me very much to Hocking Hills State Parks and the surrounding parks & preserves near Logan, Ohio. There are several there and some have trails connecting them too. If you have never been there I would highly recommend it.

What exactly is "tide pooling"?
@DirtInMyShoesКүн бұрын
It's when you go and look for sea creatures that live in the small pools that stay in the rocks when the tide is low!

My family went out to Rocky Mountains National Park and it is one of the most beautiful vacations we ever had. We stopped off at Estes Park (a town, not a park) and picked up a sack lunch to take along. If you ask the local store-keepers, they can point you to the entrance to Fall River Road. We planned to drive up Fall River Road with our lunch and eat by Chasm Falls. However, about halfway there, someone up ahead of us had car trouble and the traffic was stopped. Other drivers had gotten out of their cars and were helping the folks with the car trouble. After waiting for a while, our kids got hungry so we we decided to get out and sit on the side of the mountain, eat our lunch and watch all the goings-on around us. We also had a beautiful view of the valley below. Traffic started to move again and we did finally make it to Chasm Falls. Visitors should know that it is a relatively easy walk from the parking area down to the waterfalls and there are several stones large enough to sit down and rest on while photographing the falls. It was well worth the traffic stop on the way up. Also, our picnic lunch came from a terrific sandwich shop called The Big Cheese down in Estes Park. If you never go to see Chasm Falls, you will always regret it. By the way, Fall River Road is believed to be the same path that the Ute tribe would take to go up to their summer campgrounds in the mountains. That would have been one fantastic summer living up there in the clear mountain air.

Thank you for this video! Do you think it’s likely for people to suffer from altitude sickness by simply driving through Tioga Pass with the AC on?
@DirtInMyShoesКүн бұрын
No, it's not likely. While it can happen, usually if you're just passing through and not exerting yourself too much, your body can handle the lower amounts of oxygen for a short time :)

@@DirtInMyShoes Thanks but I am in WY now. I guess I watched older versions of KZfaq videos from several people that were pre reservation so I had no clue and, the fact is, they should have let the one guy in that they turned around. It was disheartening to say the least. It is a lasting memory though knowing I would have single handedly ruined the whole day for everyone if I were let in! LOL Thanks for reaching out. Loving your podcast and discussions! I'm about to go on a trip to the NW and you mentioned road closures, which got me to thinking, what app/service do you guys like to use to help with navigating and keeping track of traffic? I default to google maps since it gives me traffic updates, but would you recommend Waze or anything else over google maps?
@DirtInMyShoesКүн бұрын
I've tried a bunch, be we usually just use Google Maps. If we're towing our trailer, we have a trucker's atlas that we like to refer to to determine the best route!

You need to pay an entrance fee when you get there + on certain days, you do need to have a reservation to enter the park. I have a full video here on my channel that will walk you through that reservation process.

Completely agree, but would like to make the caveat that IMO the best way to avoid the lines is to stay in the park. We just came back from Yosemite trip June 17 to 21, 2024. It was amazing! I purchased your itinerary and it was super helpful. We wanted to challenge ourselves a bit more, so we hiked the Mist trail to Nevada falls and combined Sentinel dome with Taft point into a loop. It was tough! I would say you have perfect amount of hiking as is. Also really appreciate your advice on when to start the day and where to park the car. We were never stuck in traffic. The falls were amazingly full! Tioga road just opened a few days before we came! We stayed at Cedar lodge in El Portal and it was great location! It was wonderful time to visit and I am so grateful for your work! When we were leaving Yosemite on Friday afternoon out of the southern entrance, there was like a mile long line of cars trying to enter. This is the only time we witnessed how crazy it can get.

It will only affect you if you are staying in Victor or Driggs and driving to Grand Teton from there. If you stay in Jackson or Wilson or Alpine, you won't be affected by the landslide/closure.

Love your videos. I have a question on Rocky Mt. Nat Park. If I come through Estes Park Beaver Meadows early, can I get to Bear Lake if I enter before a certain time, or do I still need a reservation? Thanks in advance.
@DirtInMyShoes5 күн бұрын
You can go through Beaver Meadows before 9 without a reservation, but you have to be past the Bear Lake checkpoint before 5 a.m. to get into Bear Lake. I have a full video about the Rocky reservations if you need additional help understanding how it all works!
@dcbates809115 күн бұрын
You nailed the problem with Rocky. I have been going for 35 plus years and the crowds have exploded. Anymore, we tend to stay on the Grand Lake side. As you stated, the east side has quite a bit more to do, but the west side is still pretty cool. I love seeing the moose along the Colorado River. I also get into the park very early or stay late because the star gazing on the west side is very good. As a photographer, I can get some decent shots of the Milky Way.
@DirtInMyShoes5 күн бұрын
We do the same thing! We visit Rocky almost every year, so we spend a lot more time in Grand Lake nowadays to avoid the crowds on the other side haha. But we do still usually stay in Estes for a night or two to get some really good hiking in!
