The mighty Gaels of Ireland, the men that God made mad. For all their wars are happy, and all their songs are sad.

That's doesn't add up What will she do with the money and the jewelry on a lonely shore The song ending has obviously been altered Maybe she just throw the fake treasure of the board, and stayed as the reall treasure worthy of keeping يا مارية، يا مسوسحة القبطان والبحرية

I lived n Dublin for most of the 70’s. I saw Alan Stivel at either the Olympia or the National Stadium, I forget. I fell hard for Rene Werner who played the fiddle. I still have a crush on him. I fell in love with Breton music that night.

Fifty years ago I saw Alan Stivell sing this. Rene Werner played the fiddle. I fell in love. I’ve loved Breton music ever since.

Nice warm, bright, natural acoustic production. The mix is satisfying and the guitar exquisite with the voice laying beautifully on top. And then there is the talent of the musicians and M.MNS! coupled to this captivating folk melody and verse! Thanks to all who brought this together!

The English version of this song was modified to make rhymes, but in doing so it loses most of the meaning and impact of the original lyrics translated here. The OG lyrics, as the singer mentioned in a live show, were inspired by a real experience she had as a little girl, when she actually got lost at night in the mist. Keep that in mind while reading the translation here... looking at it from the perspective of a lost little girl trying to find her way home through a misty night... brrrr, the impact is certainly a lot different.
