"I am the shark, the ground is my ocean" ... don't play their game and stay on shore then lol ... learning bjj is about as useless as learning portuguese or learning how to surf, it's good to know if you find yourself in these exceptional situations but why would you go to a hellhole like Brasil, why would you surf in shark-infested waters, why would you willingly put yourself in danger in a self defence scenario by going to the ground willingly, at least judo will teach you how to get back up and LEAVE the Danger Zone instead of prolonging your risk of getting headstomped ... maybe bjj is useful to learn if only for 1 thing and thing only: to develop an understanding on how NOT to do self-defence :)

I assume he's talking about Brazilian Jujitsu and not Japanese Jujitsu. And that Brazilian Jujitsu is also the best option for customising your ears....

I want to do Judo but I'm quite afraid of falling and getting injured. I'm 35 and pretty out of shape, overweight too. Maybe BJJ would be better to begin with?

It's so weird how they lie about the belt system. The only historical evidence shows that Helio and Carlos wore black belts since the beginning.

I think it reaaaally depends on your gym, I did Judo for 2 years or so abd had friends that pursued it and none of them, although having high ranked color belts, is strong, confident in their abilities or very good at texhnique. And thats because we only did technique and a bit of skipping!

That’s cool, worked out great for me in class until I got to the part where I go to side control and the leg is still in the way and then keep ending up in half guard. How does he clear the leg from this position?

making it to work is really hard, as the opponent will always turn to maintain guard and you won't be able to be at an angle when you stand up with one knee. This puts you in danger of getting swept.

1 solid judo throw and no amount of bjj skill is gonna matter because you're done before you even have a chance to use it, you can't submit what you can't take down first

It's just JuJitsu. You can slap your countries name on it, but it was still brought over by a Japanese man. Sad that the Gracie's have no class or shame.

I started Judo at my 6 years of age and focused on it for the next 6 years. Judo helped me survive many bad situations during my school time. It helped me humble bullies 3 classes above me. It helped me deal with bullies head taller than me, it helped me deal with jerks at night clubs. Definitely worth learning guys. If i could learn it and train it as a kid, so can you during your teenage or adult years, don't be p*ssy. It's for ur own good! If you like it, go for it!

Good post bro. Same same. If you train it seriously like 3 times a week minimum, some untrained rando between your hands is just a pillow dummy, clueless about what to do.

Judo imo is way better than BJJ. BJJ is kind a “boring” and doesn’t require much athleticism. Judo, being faster, stronger, more explosive, having more endurance etc. makes you a more effective fighter provided you are learning the techniques. Nothing against BJJ though it is definitely beneficial but idk I think we can’t just rely on that. Judo will save your life on the streets.
