I may not have heard you and I apologise if you did acknowledge other cyclists/walkers, but as a horse rider, we get many cyclists that 'creep' up on us. It's always really helpful if you just shout 'hi' so we can hear you. The horses usually hear you before we do but when they jump, we jump even more 😁 Saves everyone getting spooked. Awesome track to live nearby!

Yes - all users of the trails, footpaths and roads should play nicely together. Giving plenty of advance warning, passing one another slowly and with loads of space; would save a whole lot of grief. You can still enjoy the outdoors without causing harm to others users.

It's lovely and a great place to visit on t' way through area; I'm from t'other side of Pendle Hill, close to Nelson, a cotton milling town. I can get into Barley and Newchurch in a few minutes stroll. I love our countryside and I was quite glad this was silent - just the noise of nature without many of the misinformed narrations added to many a posting. Does every granny claim to be related to Elizabeth Southern or Alice Nutter? Although some of the distant family are Nutter's not just in name and hail from Sabden. Sometimes when we have beauty on our doorstep we're tempted to take it for granted and not appreciate it; If I get that bad thee can take a short walk along the canal to Burnley to remind thee of what it could be like! (Good examples of early Satanic mills though, like Queen Street).

It's a great track for new mountain bikers and for those to practice skills like cornering. Note that there was a message a week or two back about trees being down, so go careful if you are heading into any blind corners...

J'ai entendu parler de la persécution du blaireau en France. J'ai vu des vidéos de festivals de chasse au blaireau en France. Je souhaite que les gens en Grande-Bretagne, en France et dans le reste du monde soient plus gentils avec les animaux. I have heard about badger persecution in France. I have seen videos of badger hunting festivals in France. I wish that people in Britain, France and the rest of the world were kinder to animals.

Very good! What are you using to get the camera movement?
@badgerlandcouk
@badgerlandcouk 7 жыл бұрын
I built my own camera track slider. It is basically a wooden board with a couple of runners on it. A moving trolley runs between the runners. The trolley is connected to a threaded rod which is driven by a small battery-powered stepper motor. A tripod head is fitted to the trolley, so I can adjust the angle of the camera. The stepper motor means that I can vary the track speed; which is good for different time lapse speeds. I can vary the track speeds from about 20 minutes per metre of travel; to as long as 5 hours. It isn't a perfect track slider by any means, but it was cheap to make (guessing about £75); so it was a good way to make a few moving time lapse videos. Professional track sliders with fully programmable electronics and so on, are likely to be well above £1000. One example would be the Syrp Genie kit: syrp.co.nz/products/genie-kits

Gisburn Forest is a great place to learn. This video starts out at the Cocklet HIll car park (this is the first car park you will see if you approach from the south). Nowadays, I think you are better to drive past Cocklet Hill for another 300 metres or so and then turn right into The Hub car park (mind the potholes on the forest road!). The Hub car park gives good access to the trails, there are toilets and a cafe for a spot of lunch and usually loads of people about who are happy to give directions. There are also some good maps on large display boards near the toilets; which you can photograph on your phone if you don't have a paper copy. There is also a set of skills loops which are great for a quick warm up beforehand or a cool down afterwards. You can get a sense of direction from this map shown here: pmba.org.uk/Gisburn-Forest-map-web.pdf The forest is generally very well signposted. On pretty much all the routes I've ridden there will be a marker post at every entrance to a bike route; along with colour coded arrows as to what routes go where and how serious they are. The colour codes are important, because Green and Blue are suitable for pretty much anyone, whereas Black and Orange are serious/high-risk routes for experts with high-quality bikes. The fire roads are all wide and gravelly and can be ridden in either direction. However, the single-track routes are one-direction only; so don't go against the direction arrows on narrow trails. Last few times I've been there, there has been a picnic table at the Hub car park, at Point 17 and at the top of the Hope Line. On a good day the view from the top of the Hope Line is superb. If you don't fancy flying down the Hope Line (Orange route), it's a nice downhill ride on the fire roads (past Points 3 and 4) back to the Hub car park. The single track route through Park Wood is a nice diversion from the fire road; and should test your balance and bike skills a bit without being too risky. Just be sure to have a puncture repair kit and a pump in your group; as a bike carry isn't fun if you end up a long way away from the car. And, if it's been wet and you are going off the fire roads; a large bin liner per person is good for the car seats on the way home. Seriously though, I hope you have a good time.

Nice! What did you use to get the side-to-side movement?
@badgerlandcouk
@badgerlandcouk 7 жыл бұрын
I shot the individual frames using a wide-angle lens, then edited them into a temporary video using CyberLink Power Director. In then put the temporary video back into the video editor and selected a small part of the frame on the left then slowly panned across to the right hand side of the frame. I then saved this as the video you see on KZfaq. As well as giving the side-to-side "movement", this also meant that I was able to edit out a few bits of litter which were in the bottom of the original shots.

Vandalised, covered in vile grafetti and the silver ball has been nicked, it is unloved and uncared for. Why do the locals not love and care for this magnificient sculpture? If that scultpture was in Hertfordshire, we would care for it.

SiPendle - thanks for your positive comment. The trolls don't concern me at all - if they can't read the description then one wonders if they should really be in charge of a fine instrument such as a mountain bike, if indeed they have one at all! The aim is to show less experienced MTBers what the trail is like and to show others if they feel the trip is worthwhile for them if they are more Hope Line riders.

Thanks for the encouraging message. Just to recap, Hurstwood is a safe and friendly place to learn biking skills. All skill-sets, genders and ages are 100% welcome. Brilliant place to start learning - especially if you are getting a new MTB this year. Fancy a bit more advanced riding? Then "GreatRock" run an MTB training course here. Haven't been to Witton, as Hebden Bridge & Gisburn Forest are more my kind of thing. But, if you know the MTB scene, I'll just say "Waiting for CockHill to open!"

I was just standing up for a nice chap who posted an interesting video, Read your post back you sent him, it's pure childishness. It's a form of bullying/trolling, it's not needed. I call you a 'bellend' Really is it THAT bad? You proceed to call me a '6 foot penis' (good one btw I would have been fine with that) But then go on to say your what? shagging my missus? Uncalled for. Especially as I don't have one, WHAT rubbing it in that I'm Lonely!!

If you get some-one to read the description to you, it clearly states that the video is meant to give mountain bikers an idea of what is actually on the trail. Kinda obvious therefore it's at a slow speed, as this is what new MTBs tend to be like on their first few rides. Please feel free to post your most amazing time to see if any-one can beat you over the coming weekend. And the very best of luck with getting your first subscriber on your youtube channel, some-one might follow you soon.
