I recently moved my mustang mare to a new barn where she will be on 24/7 turnout with 3 other mares. She is an easy keeper so she will have to be muzzled. The barn requires all new horses to be quarantined in a stall for 7 days when they first arrive but she will soon be turned out in the field. When I turn her out for the first time do you recommend I leave the muzzle off so that she and the other mares can get to know each other and establish herd dominance without the muzzle hiding facial expressions? I’ve never used a muzzle before so I don’t know the best way going about introducing horses with one on. Please respond! Thank you!

Hi Anne. I love your thought process. If it were mine, yes, I would probably leave it off for a bit while they run around and get to know one another and then put it on once they settle down. She likely won't be eating a whole lot in that time period either. Note that my horses do not wear theirs 24/7, so I would also watch for rubbing. I know Thinline makes some padding, but I am not sure if that gets too hot though. Also, make sure you clean your halter from time to time so that the dirt underneath doesn't cause skin irritations. Best of luck on your new facility...keep us posted!

Which size of halter do you have for the little one? Pony size? Thx

His is a mini. So, I ordered the "Medium Mini" size. There is also a Pony size, but that would have been huge for him.

Thank you so much for making this video. Really informative and helps me really see what this muzzle and halters are all about. Even the little things matter aton like the zip ties and the notches in their halter for the muzzle. Thanks again. 😊

Absolutely...I am glad it helps. 6 months later, I am still very pleased with these muzzles and halters. I did find a little rubbing on the mini's halter nose-band and moved his muzzle back to his leather halter...which stopped the issue. I had problems with the previous muzzle rubbing on his nose as well. Note that I didn't buy the optional padding, so that is an option for me to go back and add it to the halter. For the two horses, neither one have had any rub marks and they are working great.

Someone said they had to get a pony/cob size halter for their regular sized horse who usually takes a "horse" size in a bridle or halter. They have Cob, Horse and Warmblood size halters. My horses usually take a regular horse size in other things. Would you say to get the Cob or the Horse size in the halter??

Hi Holly. I didn’t order a cob halter, so I can’t tell you the specific comparison between cob and horse. That said, let me give you a gauge. Both of my horses are warmbloods with decently refined heads...but they are still warmbloods. The horse size halter was the perfect size for them. Each side of the leather crown piece has 5 holes. My horses wear them on the 3rd hole. And, the rest of the halter isn’t adjustable, Also, I was worried the warmblood size would be huge around the muzzle. Thus, you can see my horses in the video and gauge if that size works or you should drop down a size. Let me know what you end up doing, as it will help others!!
