Hey girl!! You’re quickly becoming one of my favorite plant KZfaqrs 😊 I’m watching as I set up my ikea akerbar! A quick note on spider mites, I used to only spray a diluted rubbing alcohol mix every week a couple of times and then wonder why the mites never went away. I recently heard to use a makeup brush (the stiff foundation ones) after spraying to physically wipe every nook and cranny of the leaves and stems, then spray again (including the soil, pot and surrounding area). Do this twice about 3-5 days apart, I do it a third because I’m paranoid. It’s too soon to say as it’s only been a couple of weeks but I haven’t see a single mite on my Jacklyn since using this method! Apparently, spider mite webbing is hydrophobic which is why using a brush is so important. If you don’t destroy their houses they will keep hatching and come for your plants. Random question, you don’t have to answer 😅 are you a stay at home wife? Anywho, great content as always 🙂

Thank you for sharing your experience with us Claudia 😊 I’m glad you had some success. I’m new ish to owning plants and I have not yet had a pest outbreak. Beneficial bugs are an interesting subject and I’m definitely going to look more into them. However, I see mixed reviews even based on your personal experiences. I hope you’re able to get everything under control soon. You have such a beautiful collection 💖

I’m so happy you watched and enjoyed! It seems the general consensus that that are various levels of success with beneficials which is a bit discouraging. But I won’t shy away, I’m sure the size of infestation and when the predatory mites are introduced matters.

Wow, this company seems like much better quality than natures good guys. I have not had a good experience with them, always arriving dead. I once asked for a replacement and the replacement came in dead as well. I don’t think I will be ordering from natures good guys again. I find that they do not have good insulation on their boxes and they only provide dry ice, not an ice pack. I will definitely have to give this company a try!

I was very disappointed with NGG and the lag in shipping was brutal. I do recommend evergreen as everything was much smoother and quicker

You are soo right about cutting off blooms i also read that cutting off blooms too early stunts their growth i also read that when corm digging you should never remove all the corms because that supposedly takes energy away from the alocasia that it needs to continue to grow. It makes sense to me because at one point i was cutting all the blooms as soon as they came out and i would remove all the corms when repotting and doing both definitly stunted their growth it took forever for them to bounce back and the blooms dont stop coming just because they were removed too soon, i guess they need to bloom flowers and use their corms to continue to grow as they do in their natural environment, i love corm digging soo much

The Green Escape sells good plants for a reasonable price, I've only lost 1 and that was more my fault than the plants, it is just they are small (I like growing them out). The only caution is not all of the plants they sell as varieties are clones, so you may not get what you expect. Case in point, I ordered an Anthurium King of Spades from them a number of months ago. Nothing wrong with the plant, has been healthy and easy to grow. But, it is clearly seed grown and it is a dog. If you Google what it should look like, mine looks nothing like it. I will probably not keep it (well, it will probably get planted outside anyway) as there are other plants that could utilize that space.

I believe you have to add Silica first and wait 5-15 minutes before you add anything else to it. Also, not sure if this silica works with tap water since it usually requires a certain ph level
