Is there a cover plate that goes over The chain drive? because it could seem like the plate cover over the chain drive can wear out the castle nut.

Thanks Neil,how do you rate the power command as against the auto command ?

I've not used a auto command NH, friends of mine who have say they wouldn't go back, however based on nothing at all I wonder about the cost of repair and my ability to do so if a auto command gearbox went bang.

Interesting to see MF finally gave up on the vee belt at each end of the conveyor belts, chain drive seems to be a sensible solution. Hate to think what that centre belt would cost from MF, the old 4 / 5 foot belts were bad enough. Used to use Apex belting in Bury St Edmunds for cheaper replacements, no connection with them myself, assume they are still trading. Cant help with the auger clutch nut, I recognize the pawl and dog for reversing the auger, but the fixing seems different to what I remember. Always used to re-section knives as long as the back was in good order. Remember as an apprentice in the mid 70's, re-sectioning four 20 foot knives in one day, not much fun!!!

Apex belts are still trading as I have used them for old 5 foot powerflow belts. They said they would be able to make one of the new larger ones but would need me to take one in to copy. I to fear how much massey may want for a new one.

Thanks for taking us around to have a look. Really enjoy your videos; learn a bit and it is enjoyable to watch someone who is not scared and capable of performing the level of work that a farmer needs to, to keep things going, stay solvent and profitable. Excited to see the new machine pull in some crop when the time comes!

Thanks for the nice comments. I really have to be able to do a lot of the repairs as local dealers are over £110 an hour. Recently had a £800 labour charge for abit of laptop diagnostic and changing a small easy to get to circuit board.

I bought a 1594 from my brother-in-law's family and these videos have been very informative. The hydroshift is a neet idea could have been better done. As in the darn valve not being burried under the whole tractor.

As they say, "its been a bearing too long". Seeing how tight it was on the shaft, are the variator sheaves siezed as well? Are they sprung loaded or are they hydraulically operated.
@neilthreadgold1090
@neilthreadgold1090 2 ай бұрын
No the variator moves just fine, I think some of the tightness is from being kept outside / power washing causing corrosion on the shaft.

Hi again, bearing replacement looks reasonable, at least its not buried behind too many belts and tinwork. Got out of the repair game in 2002, so the Delta is new to me. Be useful if you could do a walk round with all the guards up, so I can see how they've changed. Dont think I would be paying £400 each for the actuators just to adjust the sieves !!! Sounds like MF were up to their usual tricks, design a new model and sort out the issues after a few years. Always told my customers to wait a few seasons before buying a new model, let someone else field test them first.

Interesting video Neil,where are those MF combines made ?

The first ones were made in Denmark, then the factory was closed and all production was moved to Agco's other combine factory in Italy

Never will understand why some combines are neglected as soon as the last field has been cut. Always told my customers to just blow the excess dust off and get it undercover asap. Assume you bought it from a dealer, so washing down and cleaning was necessary. Not teaching you to suck eggs, but remove all inspection hatches, give it a good run, grease the bearings and give it a good look through before harvest. Hope its a good one for you and that you dont need to do any repair videos during the season.

Thanks for the comment. The combine is spread over the grain shed at the moment so far some wiring (mouse damage) and spotted a bearing that looks fun to get at, still this is what I expect from a used combine and am really enjoying the challenge of it.

I had to modify the drawbar for the bottom mounting of the ram and the top piece that lifts the puh also needs a bit of a mod. I don't know if there is room to fit a second ram on the smaller 94 series tractors

Thanks for the videos - if you ever need to tow it you can slide the coupling across on both half shalfts - theres an m8 bolt to undo and thats it - final drives still turn but gearbox / hydro motor is free. Cant remember if you still have brakes - dont think you do. We moved a 7278 with a ridgid bar behind a tractor - i 'drove' the combine - basically steered it - for about 10 miles - it was entertaining!

The MIG welding methods that work the best is to trace around the weld puddle. This helps keep the heat in the weld and makes the weld appear a little better. This works with flux core as well. I had to work on a MF combine in 2010 where a bearing went dry on the head. It was a great deal of glowing metal and peening with a small hammer to get the sprockets off the shaft. In this case the peening was to cause small vibrations in the taper joint as the sprocket cooled, to cause the sprocket to jump off the shaft.

Glad you managed to sort it. Looks as if it may have lost the RH elevator retaining pin in the past which allowed it to swing out and put strain on the housing. Auto level header must add to the strain. Always thought the Danish built machines were not built heavy enough compared to the North American MF combines.

Hi. I have a similar harvester, recently a belt fell that damaged several others. after replacing them, on the computer I have a speed potentiometer error and the tresher switch is on error. Last problem was solved - bad connection of the sensor. Speed potentiomer still there. Problem with the speed potentiometer could not be solved, the machine is not moving at the moment. have you ever met this problem?

Little tip if you move the front far enough away, the pto shalf will come out of the front. Saves you having to remove the unit and save a bit of time. I pulled money out that way when I did my hydra.

The first time I did this, which was about 30 year's ago was very worrying but took my time and it worked out fine. I took the gearbox yesterday to Barclay Williams, he striped it down while I was there. It needs some new seals and a few other things then he will set it up on his test chamber.
