It is one of the best examples of onomatopoeia writing. They(Janequin) captured the sounds of war.

This work starts in the homophonic style. The middle has a good example of the forte-piano rule found in the Classical period. The repeated phrase is first sang piano with the repeat sang forte. Towards the end Haydn adds polyphonic texture with the phrase "The wonders of his work" while still adhering to major/minor chord structure. It ends with a strong cadence.

So glad I finally found this version with the help of Reddit. My father and I both sang this version decades apart and have been struggling to find the version we both sung in choir as young lads. Truly a beautiful piece

Not surprising it's not a hymn. It's a left-wing patriotic song. Parry was a lifelong atheist and a socialist, and Blake was hardly conventional.
