Forgot them at home :(, and the track shop at laguna is more a gift shop than a gear shop

How do you use a 800gph pump with a filter rated for max flow of 300gph? Will it break it?
@istrog4 ай бұрын
So the filter has its own pump too and I was worried about it “getting in the way” of the bigger pump - but it seems to just not make much of a difference. The pump of the filter by itself is not strong enough to lift the water all the way through the system (when I turn off the “main” pump, the flow almost stops). On the other hand, when I connect the piping directly the flow rate doesn’t seem to increase - so for the “main” pump the biggest part of work pushing the water through the system is actually lifting it up to height, not the resistance of the filter. It might break the filter pump at some point? But it’s been working fine around the clock for almost 6 months, so pretty good so far 🙂

@@istrog Oh, that's not my point though. The filter should have a max flow rate which means if your pump is pushing out more water than what your filter can take on, then wouldn't it break the filter or render the filter not very useful? This question is independent of any pump that came with your filter.

@@valdezm_com Hmm, my guess for flow rating of the filter was really a rating of the pump included inside the canister filter. I can see how it might restrict the flow of a stronger pump - though anecdotally (seeing the flow rate remain similar when bypassing the filter) it doesn't appear to be adding that much. Potential damage of restricting the flow could be that the pump gets overworked, and overheats (that's unlikely to happen though as it's submerged in the 43f water lol). I'm not sure I can imagine potential damage to the physical filter elements though?

What litre size is your barrel?
@istrog5 ай бұрын
This one was the standard 225L barrel. I have since found a bigger barrel (400L) that's a bit more roomy

Gday, did you paint epoxy or any sealer inside the barrel? I just purchased a barrel starting my set up thanks
@istrog8 ай бұрын
No, didn’t coat it with anything - figured if it’s good to keep the wine in, it’s good enough to keep my cold water in 🫣

Also, as far as sanitation - obviously getting into the barrel I displace some 75L of water - then refill it after I get out; I think this too helps with keeping it cleaner longer (I replace water and power wash the inside of the barrel once a month, it gets a tad slimy on the surface even though water seems perfectly clear)
