Any suggestions for decorative stitch for a checkerboard pattern? It's actually not a chess/checkboard, it's the standing reindeer canvas. Thx.

Hi, Ellen! I’m watching your recorded videos here in Vancouver, Canada. We no longer have a needlepoint store anywhere near here, unfortunately, so we must buy almost everything online.

Thank you for your lessons. I’m picking up again after many years. I found a partially finished bargello sampler of my mother’s and would like to finish it. So I would like to know how to finish between the stitch types. I’ve signed up for a beginner’s class with you this month.

Love this story! I'm really lucky to have a sewing/fiber arts thrift nonprofit in my town that is chock full of really inexpensive crafting supplies. I found this giant prepainted tapestry canvas from the 70s in a really cute cartooney style with rolling mountains and huge stylized flowers and I just thought it was so cute I took it home even though I didn't know what it was. I eventually looked it up and thought "that's not too different from cross stitch, I bet I could do that!". I then went back for a smaller starter project just in case I was terrible at it or didn't like it and ended up with some small plastic canvases that I've been making little designs with. I first learned cross stitch because I wanted a small portable project to bring on the airplane when my partner took me to his hometown in Italy. It turned out there was no internet way out in the country where he grew up, so I was so happy I had brought cross stitch! I've pretty much taught myself from videos, although it's much harder for me to find info about needlepoint (and patterns) than cross stitch. I'm so happy to have discovered your channel! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!

I've done needlepoint in the past, but I'm looking to make teddy bears and I need to use needlepoint thread for their noses and their mouths and my teddy bears are going to have little eyebrows. I was wondering what thread you recommend? Please and thank you for your time

Thank you. I'm working on a lake with a blue overdye floss on 28 count fabric. I'm thinking I may use regular Hungarian Stitch up near the shoreline and use your combination for the wider parts of the lake. Who says I can't use needlepoint stitches on fabric? It's not like the stitching police are going to come knocking on my door! 🤣🤣🤣

My question is: If I want to use this stitch on a preformed plastic canvas handbag, is it possible and are there certain rules to remember when doing so? I am very new to this and willing to learn. I hope my question isn't a bad one lol

I am new to this channel, the first time I learn anything about needle work was in Junior high school, embroidering our monograms. My mother did all kinds of needle work, embroidery, cross-stitch and counter cross-stitch. I love every type there is and want to learn more about it. I also quilt and sew clothing and such. You are such a lovely person, and I am grateful to anything you can teach me. God Bless. oh and I found you on face book and signed up to receive newsletters and subscribe. I am from Michigan.

Hi Ellen, I'm in the Asheville, NC area which doesn't seem to have much in the way of Needlepoint shops. I bought a Dimensions Kit called Bouquet on Black from Amazon, and thought I'd learn needlepoint. It's a beautiful kit. I've done cross stitch in the past & I'm a knitter. I absolutely love Kaffe Fassett's designs & wanted to give needlepoint a try. I can't believe the prices of canvas's that I see on needlepoint sites. I have a few of Kaffe's books so I'll be using blank canvas's in the future. I'd like to know more about drawing a grid, and how many threads do you use & which thread? Kaffe seems to nearly always use Appleton yarn since he's in England. As long as all my stitches are headed in the same direction, what difference does it make if it's a tent, basketweave, or continental stitch? I'm left handed so I'm sure everything is oriented the opposite of what I'd prefer. Also seeing the painted design on the canvas is difficult unless there's something white behind the canvas. Do you have a strategy for that? I'm 63 so I have to wear readers to see the grid well. I have it on a frame but I think I'll take it off so it's easier to stitch. Any thoughts on that?
