The Summit/Compaq Center used to be so live. Toyota Center is a bore compared to it. This is an elimination game in the first round, lol crowd wouldn’t show up til the 2nd quarter if this was today.

I played in the American CBA (Before G-League) for two seasons until a motorcycle accident. I can say the game from the 90s would transfer to the current game well, but today's game would be horrible mismatched with the 90s game. Players today could not handle the intensity and tenacity of the 90s style defence (war).

Tommy Heinsohn was such horrible announcer, who always took ridiculous shots at Bird every chance he got. It was all about jealousy because Heinsohn and his contemporaries couldn't shine Bird's shoes. Forgot how much I hated his stupid commentary.

Dan Roundfield was an unheralded player. Here he causes Worthy to alter his dunk and miss it. Then he blocks Kareem. Fearless in the break taking it to Kareem. I recall his days in Atlanta. He was a standout there. An all star too i believe. For whatever it was that didnt translate into greater success and championships, he was a presence on the court.

As a Portland Fan we had the Two Best Passing Centers in Bill Walton and Arvidas Sabonis until Joker arrived on the scene. But still.

From 1980 to 1987 before Bird's body broke down, he was the greatest player to ever play IMO. After his body broke down on him, and his body deteriorated on him, he was still a very, very good player. But, between 80 and 87, I would put his career up against anybody including Jordan and LeBron.

If you go back, can you watch all five games of the recent NBA championship games. There is not as much action and incredible plays as just in this game alone. All five of the NBA championship games this year were terrible. Blowouts. No competition. Just people shooting three points from 50 feet away. Terrible offenses. Everybody just sits around the perimeter somebody drives and they dish out for a three-point play. This game on itself was better than all five of those games. This is when basketball was fun and real.

I was around 15 when this happened. I thought that a retirement tour was cringe. Still do. Who remembers when Dr J took on Kareem circa 1993 in a televised 1 v 1? Kareem crushed him.

Bird took certain shots (and made them consistently) that no player has ever even taken. Before or since. Some of those high arc bank shots. Underhanded left hand hook shots off the board. They often just look ridiculous yet they go in over and over again.
