Thank you Doctor B. My large rescue dog has a complete few days ago. Vet recommended surgery. We do have pet health insurance, so cost is not as much pf a problem. However, my dog is 12 and I am afraid to put her through surgery. Our Vet thinks that she is healthy enough despite her age, but I am afraid of her undergoing an operation. We wil have a surgical consult but I hope to make the best choice for her, and the safest.

Hello, my boy and I have his consultation on May 9th for a TPLO they want to keep him over night which I totally understand but…no one is there over night with the dogs…I don’t know how I feel about this… *This is a board certified surgeon * Penny for your thoughts?

@@dr.brittonbradberry2171 thank you for responding. But is it normal for them to be left unattended? My dog doesn’t do well at all at the vet. I know he will be on meds but it just seems odd after such an invasive surgery that they are left unattended 😔

@@katbek4502 we leave ours unattended as well. I'm from a small town the economics of having someone watch them overnight becomes very expensive. I always tell folks if they don't feel good about it though then trust your gut. Again from our end we have patients staying overnight without issue all the time.

Thank you very much for the informative video. What happens when both legs are suspected to have CCL tears? Do surgeons operate on both at the same time?
@dr.brittonbradberry2171

I prefer to only work on one leg at a time. After a couple of months when it is healed I go forward with the other. Some surgeons do both at the same time, but it can be pretty rough on the patient.

Thank you for these informative videos, it makes me feel better that surgery is the right answer. With a partial tear, does the remaining CCL remain intact after a TPLO surgery?
@dr.brittonbradberry2171
@dr.brittonbradberry2171 2 жыл бұрын
Generally not (most partial tears are majority of the ligament torn). The surgeries themselves change the joint force so the CCL is no longer needed.

@@dr.brittonbradberry2171 great video! Thank you for the information. I am in upstate NY and my Newf is scheduled to have a TPLO on his right side next Tuesday. It is fully blown out. My question is that he also has a tear on his left side. My concern is the left side making it through the recovery period. I wanted your opinion on whether or not a brace would be beneficial for the left side. The board certified surgeon told me not to waste my money. Any comments or suggestions would be great! Thanks in advance and thank you again for the video!

@@paullombardo3579 Sadly it is very common for the other leg to go as well. I too am not a big fan of braces. It's not going to hurt to use it, but it is probably not going to help much either. Good luck with the surgery

It depends on her size. A little dog can do fine with one of these, but a bigger dog needs a different type of surgery. I have another video that will hopefully answer most of the common questions I get. Here is the link kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mshom86lmcC5l3U.html. Thanks

I wish people would watch videos like this and realize their dog has not 'healed' after an ACL injury and "bed rest". That, instead, the body has somewhat compensated, as it does, but is not, in fact truly healed. The body did not go in and make itself a new ligament...

My 9 almost 10 year old has a complete CCL tear. She weighs 48 pounds and likes to go on walks, due to her age I don’t want to do such an invasive procedure such as TPLO - do you think this type of repair would be fine to help stabilize the knee so she can keep up her current lifestyle. I just don’t think CM will be enough and fair for her to be on medicine the rest of her life
@dr.brittonbradberry2171
@dr.brittonbradberry2171 4 жыл бұрын
At that weight you would be better off going with a more advanced procedure. TPLO's are fine and I personally prefer the newer TTA-2. If you have more questions please feel free to contact me. advancedvetcarenm.com

@@Mistah_J_786 I certainly do. I think the patient (your dog) would be better off with a more advanced type of knee surgery. At that age she still has many years ahead of her. Surgery decreases pain and osteoarthritis and the risk of further limb deformity.
