When i met my husband he already had chloe and Sasha. Sasha is now departed, but chloe now is 14. I have been helping my husband trim her nails for about 8 years now, and in the beginning it was hard. She would always squirm, nip and shake real bad. Over time i got her now to where she will only shake a little bit. I constantly talk to her and tell her shes ok, never it's ok. I tell her shes a good girl what a big girl and she seems to be ok, and then she knows she gets a special treat. The hammock is something i didnt know about. My husband had clipped a nail too short once, and it took months before he could trim her nails again. Between that time, i had taken her to the vet every 3 weeks to get her nails trimmed. Now that i saw that hammock i think that's the final key to get her to stop shaking all together. Thank you for this video. 😊

My husband holds him and I do the clipping. Petsmart wouldn’t take him again unless he got on meds. I guess he barked too much. He’s a dachshund though. So we do and he’s happier that way. It was easy tonight but before it wasn’t so easy.

Yay! Welcome. I'm glad you found the video. Trimming dachshund nails can be so stressful. I do hope this hammock trimming method works well for your mini dachshunds. An extra helping hand is needed for this process - have help getting the hammock nice and secure while trimming. :)

Old video... but one good suggestion is make sure the senior dachshund has a bed that is firm but comfortable. Beds that are too soft or too thin, are less of an issue when younger, but as they age, they need that better bed. I noticed my senior dachshund was scratching a bit more to fluff or build up her bed as she aged so moved to a thicker firmer bed, which she seems to find more comfortable. Also avoid beds that have raised edges or 3 sided, have found that a big larger, flat pad is much easier for my older dachshund to enter and exit from. A small blanket or even an old towel, on the flat bed lets them create a comfort layer as they desire, or at times to sleep under when they want.

Hi there, Yes, dogs can be allergic to pumpkin. It's not super common, but some pups might have a sensitivity to it. Always good to keep an eye out for any weird reactions if you're thinking of adding it to their diet.

i have a doxin pekingese mix and i’ve tried multiple different sizes of diapers and she walks out of all of them. do they have have specific diapers for them or do you think a reusable one would stay better ? 🥲 we live in a apartment and i don’t have anywhere to really gate her in we just try to keep her on the puppy pads (in her bed and crate ) during the day but she ends up messing them all up moving around on them or chewing them up mostly the one in her crate so that’s why i wanted her to have the diapers but idk what to do or why they won’t stay no matter what 😅😭 someone help plz

Hi there, Gretta's heat diaper has velcro latches on the sides and they could adjust slightly, but usually stayed on pretty well. If you choose to use heat diapers: Always allow for self-cleaning time each day to prevent infection. Gretta was free to self-clean in the evening, all night long and in the morning. I would only put the diaper on in the afternoon and I change out the diaper's disposable pad every time she went outside to go potty. If you aren't able to use puppy pads in a kennel, put down washable puppy pads, which are much bigger, in an enclosed room so she can't leak all around your home OR a washable blanket or towel in her crate. My dachshund passed away on 5th march. She was 16 years old and had alot of happy memories. But yes, all these tips were followed in her case specially- the diet and weight and not forcing her to climb stairs. She died of kidney issue but it was a natural death. Dachshund are the sweetest breed ever. Love you snoopy!

These are my tenth and eleventh dachshunds I've had, the third set of sisters. I just love their personalities. Great Question! Brown rice is a bit more nutritious for our little long dogs, packed with fiber and nutrients. However, it can be harder to digest for some dachshunds. If your pup has a sensitive tummy, switch it out for white rice instead.
