How long do olives last in the fridge in an open jar? The packaging says to consume within like 2-3 days, but how are you gonna do that with a litre or two of olives?
@Mediterraneanliving
@Mediterraneanliving 4 күн бұрын
If they are just regular olives, I have kept them for months in the fridge. It might be different if they are stuffed with something that is more perishable.

@@Mediterraneanliving Thanks for the reply. I was advised by my doctor to follow this diet or a low-carb med diet, but it honestly seems that the default med diet is better. Thinking less about hitting macros would be nice. I do have another question. I know there's an emphasis on chicken and fish, but being a Muslim, many recipes I know rely on lamb as the protein source. Am I right in thinking this should be more of a treat, as it's a red meat? Thanks.

Sounds like a delicious way of eating, and vegetables are so good for you. But eggs and all food from an animal contains cholesterol.

As a typical unhealthy American many of the ingredients are unfamiliar to me, I haven't been exposed to seeds, will have to learn about how to cook beans. How is 40 percent of the diet Olive Oil? Do people just drink Olive Oil? I can't even be sure the EVO in my local grocery is actually EVO, it could easily be a Chinese fake.

Thank you for the tips, I hope to start this diet soon. I don't normally drink alcohol, but maybe I'll start having a bit of red wine with dinner for the health benefits. I'm unsure about grape juice since it's probably loaded with sugar.

If you don't already drink alcohol, I would never suggest that you should begin drinking for health reasons. Changing your diet will make the biggest difference, don't worry about the alcohol.

@@Mediterraneanliving so what do you do with all the extra oil? Consume it right then and there? Save it for another day? Or throw it away? EVO is too expensive to waste. Also is there a list of known fake EVOs to stay away from. I know there had been partial lists, but nothing substantial.

I spent some time in Sicily and the cuisine was out of this world. I didn't have any kind of meat for the duration of my time there. Actually, I didn't even realize it until I came back to the USA. I ate A LOT, probably more than I eat here in the States. I've tried following the Mediterranean diet a couple of times, and I always got bored of it or got frustrated with it. I realize now that the problem is that the idea of "dieting" (at least here in the USA), is really focused on restricting yourself. Every time I tried a diet, I restricted myself and stopped myself from enjoying certain foods simply because they are labeled "bad." This video reminded me of my experience in Italy. I didn't have to restrict myself, and I never once thought about certain foods being bad. I ate pasta, bread, lots of cheese, and lots of olive oil. Sure, 95% of what I ate was made from vegetables and fruit. But still, I never felt like I was dieting or restricting myself. I was my healthiest during my time there. I also realize that living in the USA, especially in my city, makes being healthy difficult. You are so consumed with work and the stress of this economy. I wish there were more green spaces in my city, and wish I actually felt safe enough to walk by myself as a young woman. In Sicily, I felt safe and comfortable. I felt motivated to walk and be active, probably because the culture is a very active one. People are always moving, people are always out and about. People enjoy the landscape, the food, the cultural festivals. I'm not saying this is impossible in the USA. Of course you can be healthy, lots of people are. However, it's not the same for all of us. Some of us really need motivation, not from people, but from our environments.

I've been a vegetarian since 2005 and have switched over to Mediterranean this month. I can't imagine getting only 2.5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day. I typically get at least 12-15 a day, even after starting a Mediterranean diet. I can easily get 6-7 servings in one smoothie. Americans must be seriously constipated. Wow

It's not hard to start a Mediterranean diet or a MediterAsian diet as brilliant scientist, Harvard trained, best selling author Dr. William Li puts it in his best selling books, "Eat To Beat Disease" and "Eat to Beat Your Diet"! He deserves a Nobel prize for his great nutritional discoveries! imho Greek food is some of the healthiest food in the world! Their Village Salad is so easy to make and not expensive at all! I chop up cherry tomatoes, add some chopped up English cucumber, add some organic Kalamata olives i.e. pitted by Lindsay brand, some crumbled feta or goat cheese and a splash of extra virgin olive oil aka EVOO and a splash of Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar! Fantastic whole plant food! Bet you'll become addicted to it like I've ended up! Can't go wrong with eating this way! Best of luck!

People has to understand our products like olive oil is a Blend in here not, old people in Japan stand up every day to make their tofu from soy beans, and they live long life, I have a neighbor, she’s Hispanic, for years and still today, she eats a pice of pizza and a Malta, she eats all kind of sugars, she’s 84. I believe it has to do a lot with the genes.

I went to Italy and Greece last year for my 50th…the food was absolutely DELICIOUS and with all the walking, I ate and drank and did not feel anywhere near what I have felt when I eat back home here in the US…but this year and most recently the last two months, I have been making my own foods from scratch and it’s been amazing!! And with that that, I have started to lean more into this way of eating so I appreciate this video.

My mother, stepdad and I are all preparing to go onto this diet. 1 problem i have with it, im a skinny guy and i need to gain weight and im concerned by the lack of meat eating. Id like to eat chicken and fish a minimum of once per day. Is this ok? it seems like some people mention they had meat everyday just as long as it was chicken or fish.
@Mediterraneanliving

Hi, you can eat chicken and fish more, but that is probably not the thing that is going to help you gain weight. I would eat more healthy grains, as nuts and seeds and also, if you drink smoothies to have those as a snack (not a meal substitute, but added in between meals).

…and the children are fed the same foods at school. In France, the food culture is taught from a very early age. School dinners are checked by dietitians to ensure they are healthy and balanced and plant based. They are highly subsidised by the authorities. Parents pay €2-3 per meal. In the UK parents from year 2 onwards pay £2.70 towards school dinners and are served poor quality food. I hate to imagine what children get in the USA for school dinners. I would so love to have a med-style market to shop at, but our 1,000 year old market has ceased to exist because of the supermarket monopoly. 😥
