I was missing the function piece i left that tiny bit of logic still in my views, thanks for this! How would you manage this with a Core Data stack? I end up with a view-model that calls functions in the CoreDataStack feels like i have two view models

MVVM is less opinionated about how persistence should be managed, what you're describing does sound like a valid method however.
