Someone just gave me a CT-F750. Three belts were melted. Replaced them with what I had laying around for now. It works on some tapes but not others. It looks like the pinch rollers are a little worn out and if the tape has some resistance it slows way down. If you press up on the tape when it is slowing down it speeds back up. I need to track down some pinch rollers. I tried sanding it a little and put rubber renue on them and no luck. Glad I didn't pay for it.

One of the reasons I dislike tape decks...time and labor is ridiculous for repairs. I will sometimes order from WJOE Radio if I'm looking for belt/roller kits. He sends instructions :)

I would return it for a refund if possible. I don't think it's the filter cap. My guess would be the pre-amp or output transistors. Was it sold as-is?

A 1050 recently a couple weeks ago went for 3700.00 on Ebay when it was auctioned off... Not buy it now. I have one close to mint in the original box that I got from a family that lost their son in the war and kept it for years. Bless their heart. I hooked it up and it sounds beautiful. I put it back in the box for preservation because I use my SA 9100 in one room and my SA 7800 in another room. I have a 850 also where it was peeling and I took off all of the peeling which had a lighter color finish and now looks new. I love Pioneer units.

I replaced those caps underneath the motor base by carefully inserting the tip of the soldering iron to the gap between the PCB and the motor base to reach the caps solder joints. For the feet, they are just stuck with springs inside. After removing the screws, you just have to pull them out straight.

Great video, I also have a Marantz 2285b that I purchased new on 7/7/1979. It has exactly the same symptoms as the one in your video. I also tried the same preliminary things you did with the same results. I don’t have the skills to get into the circuit board like you did but the dealer I purchased it from is still in business (Team Electronics dba Pflantz Electronics). Guess I will be making a trip to see them. Thanks again for your video.

Excellent review! I own a TD 165 which has the dust cover with the molded hinges that slide over the pins on either side of the base. Definitely a weaker design as the "hinge" on the left side of the dust cover has broken so now I remove the dust cover whenever I play vinyl. I've replaced the belt several times and the turntable still works as new. I paid $125 when I purchased the turntable new in the mid-1970's

Our movers decided to cut all of the tonearm cables and tape the actual arm part to the inside of the plastic cover... No idea why any intelligent being would think that was a good idea, but our turntable has been sitting around in storage for 8 years now. Thought "I can't really ruin it any more, let's just try to fix it" and I was wondering if I'd have to replace all of this, but I might as well buy new with the price of the parts. I never even considered replacing the tonearm wires, but I think this might be the solution to getting this thing working again. Time to get my ass kicked. Thanks for sharing!

My ranking for the 70s lineups would be the x3x, xx50, x2x, then xx80. I prefer the SX 1000TA/D over all of them (late 60s). The 990/2500 (late 60s) series is my least favorite cosmetically. I just had a 1980 across the bench...review will be added to the queue soon. Never thought I would see one :)

OK so it "jumped" (so would you if a giant touched your leads (hands) across an electric fence). What I need to know is this, how to wire these things, across a speaker's terminals, to know what the VU reading is, when you have many different channels all powering speakers.. without any VU meter on the amp itself, as the amp only has two channels whereas the speakers come off different circuits that originated from the amp, but get further split before the speakers see the currents..
