When Rod says, "You know I have a hormone disorder" it just reminds me of Jake and Amy. Jake (also played by Andy Samberg) tells Amy that be physically can't grow a moustache is just kind of a nice detail he carries into the show and the movies.

One reason I always thought Frank didn't acknowledge Rod as a man was that he comes in padded up. Meanwhile, Frank is just there in his athletic clothes. Rod isn't willing to get bruised in a one-on-one fight, i.e. not on equal terms.

Jokes aside, this movie is about a guy who loves his stepdad and family. He’d literally jump 15 buses to save Frank’s life. Frank wasn’t just his old curmudgeonly step dad, but his mom’s husband and Kevin’s dad. That’s important.

You just know Ian McShane must've had a frickin BLAST playing this role in this awesome comedy -he typically plays in fairly serious dramas, from what I've seen; I imagine, therefore, it must have been a kick in the pants getting to be silly as all hell in this and play opposite Andy Sandberg's ridiculous exaggerated comedy.
