Hi, hey I just wanted to THANK YOU for this video. Just purchased a used 650i convertible, and the gear shifter looked like a cat had been chewing on it, covered with scratches. I checked on KZfaq for advice, saw your video, ordered by new part, and installed it just like you did. Getting the old one off was the only trick and your method worked perfectly and caused no damage. Just wanted to know, your two year old video is still valuable. Thanks again.

Looks like the reader is a Launch Creader Elite specifically for BMW/Mini. It’s going for $129 on eBay new with quick shipping. Not bad. It even lets you program new $30 key fobs. Even if all keys are missing. Pretty sweet considering the cost to tow a car to the dealer or have a key fob made for $300+.

Too easy. It's so nice not to have a 7 hour opening monolog! The only 2 things that would've made your video better would be; someone else holding the camera for you, and 10 seconds of "use a 10mm drill along top and bottom of front"

mine randomly lost obd connection (my scanner seemed to not connect with the ecu)and became a crank no start. one thing l noticed there was no spark. after disconnecting and reconnecting ecu sockets and spraying contact cleaner numerous times. obd connection was restored and when l tried to start it it started right up. what is happening to my bmw e90?????

It could be water getting into the ecu box then into the ecu and coroding the contacts. When I was reading the forums trying to find my problem, a few people said they found corrosion on either the ecu contact or the socket that connects to it.

@@alistuslarter6787 I'm not sure how oil would get in there because the box the ecu is in is supposed to be sealed. Maybe the cover on the box wasn't properly closed.

On my BMW 120D E87 2007, the Instrument Cluster and OBD2 port are on the same fuse (F58). However on my car, OBD2 is down but Instrument cluster is working, therefore fuse not problem. Could be for you though..??..??

Thanks. Note you can make life a bit easier if you first remove the window switch and puddle light before removing the door panel; they both just lift out with a small door panel tool. This saves struggling to pull the wire harnesses out while holding the door in an awkward position.

Carefully drilling out the black plastic “rivets” from the back side of panel makes this much easier. I learned this from several previous comments and just confirmed it myself. FYI for anybody about to do this project. Thank you for the very helpful video!

You pull the screw. This is wrong. It damages the hole where the screw goes. You should use a Philips screwdriver.

Used a flathead screwdriver to make space under each side of the plastic piece, then used LARGE diagonal cutters to clip them off... only a minute or so for each one! Thank you! Made this SUPER easy to do! Was replacing handles and speakers on all 4 doors so this made it super easy! Looks like new again!

Very nice, but my car has a plastic grate under the eyebrows plus a round cap on top of the screw which causes the screw not to be removed.

The eyebrow piece on the hood is plastic and has a rivnut that a bolt screws into from under the hood. If the rivnut is loose and spins, you won't be able to remove the bolt. The same thing happened for me on 1 side. Had to break off the rivnut from the plastic, then use vice grips to hold the rivnut from on top of the hood and unscrew the bolt from the bottom

No. It was running fine. No check engine light. Just couldn’t communicate through the obd port

@@Winstonzm mines powers up the scanner runs and drives but can’t communicate with the dme start and stop light stay illuminated like it doesn’t go into sleep mode when locking the doors also I can’t get acc mode to stay on

My battery(ies) has(ve) been draining to the point where a newly installed starter motor's solenoid stuck closed consequently killing the starter motor.....Then, after replacing starter motor, tried recharging newish BMW bought battery (6 months old) and reconnecting. Managed to clear fault codes using Bimmer Tool through OBD2. Tried starting and nothing but click click click and an unsettling sound from driver side hidden module. (CAS? Footwell?) Plugged Bimmertool in and no communication with ECU. Battery fried; Bought a new battery (Bosch) from ECParts, & car started fine but then battery dead within three days. Took to auto electrician yesterday and they found nothing wrong other than they also could not connect with ECU using their scan tool, so booked in to Bolton Motor Works for closer look. But how can they know where to look without an OBD connection??? Aaaargh .... Lol
