Burnt Earth House .... moody .... sums this up so succinctly. So unexpected by the sea but so appropriate given the history and for me it almost brings the desert interior to the coastal edge. Thank you so much for allowing us in to such a poetic home.

An absolute privilege to be invited into Burnt Earth House by John and to feature his home as a film. We’re thrilled to receive your feedback. Thank you, team estliving.com

John's family retreat beautifully reflects the soft serenity of its surf coast surroundings & the architectural angles & handcrafted materials perfectly mimic the cliff meeting the edge of the water. I love how the home frames each view whilst capturing the changing light throughout the day.

Yes exactly, John designed the home to capture the magnificent views of the Great Southern Ocean and at the same time orienting the jagged shape to make the most of the natural light. Thank you, team estliving.com

Australian architecture is phenomenal, est living, The Local Project, or Architectural Digest feature always deliver, however I can't get a sense of why my opinion of those interior CMU looking brick patterns bother me so much. Seems like a constant theme in Australian Architecture.

Australian architecture is exceptional and John Wardle is one of the esteemed within the design set. Thanks for your feedback that est living always delivers, we adore capturing design intent on film. Tell us more about the Australian brick CMU, keen to hear your thoughts…? The interior design feels very muted and no personality. I think it takes skill to not just make another trendy white space but one that has charm. The exterior is pretty to look at especially from outside, from inside it makes me feel claustrophobic. I'm happy someone made a different shell to a living space tho, makes for a fun video :) Big dentist energy this one
@est_livingКүн бұрын
The interior is very neutral, having visited in person the curved brick roof line is very unique and gives an incredible sense of calm. What we weren’t able to capture on film was the use of colour within the bathrooms for eg a deep red tiled space.. you can see this design the photography. You would love this application of colour! Stay tuned, team estliving.com

i was ready to criticize this video as there are so many design vids out there, but the grandeur and scope of this house is amazing. there's no famous pieces of furniture but it all looks luxurious and expensive. it's on the brink of too much black but restrained enough. walking into the black building looks like an airport hanger and the lush greenery in the back with the sparse vegetation is chefs kiss.

Not the best brick works from my point of view. Clumsy is the best one word to describe. I go past this building every day. This is a builder deficiency not the architect. Rob is a fantastic architect.
@ntsakisomaswanganye8878 күн бұрын
The imperfect brick work,edges and lines thats what makes it unique. It resembles an old building build in Medieval times somewhere in Rome. It embodies a building that stood the test of times. You get it you get it

What a handsome home. I was struck by the sound of the breeze slewing through the trees. When you brought up your mother I thought you were going to tell us how you accommodated her without a guest room. Is there a place in the home where one can look over or through the trees? I have noticed that a good deal of these modern homes are nestled into the landscape without views or a at least a borrowed one. I would find this claustrophobic over time.

‘Tower of power’ because of it’s location only. I’ve always felt since moving to this city over 30 years ago that this was a thoroughly underwhelming building. The bricks have no aesthetic appeal and the windows too small. The update was obviously sorely needed and adds certainly a new chapter to it’s life.
