I miss the Southland and Bayfair Mall of the 70's to mid-80's. Once they remodeled them, there was no "heart" to them anymore. I haven't been to either of those malls since maybe the late 90's. I've heard they are pretty dangerous now with all the riff-raff hanging around them.

Yeah, there’s just a weird vibe anymore at those places

Never had in and out but a coworker of mine born and raised in LA (he moved out here a couple years ago) said they have great burgers 👍

The establishment looked clean, as best as I could tell. I have never heard of a gorilla style hamburger 🍔 It looked good. Messy, like you said, but good. Is in -and-out part of a large chain, or just local? Great video, thank you very much for sharing Tony. Have a great weekend. 😊

I'm glad you had a good time on the island! I thought I'd also add some extra context to certain things you saw on your visit. 23:29 : You probably figured this out but this was a dining hall that they added during WW2 for Japanese Americans who were in transit to other internment/concentration camps. 26:01 : This is a common mistake but the area you're pointing at here is actually the ruins of the administration building. Those picnic tables are where the Asiatic dining hall would have been. The actual Asian men's yard would have been right behind the sign that you saw earlier. 30:15 : You found something here that I haven't seen before which is pretty cool! What I can tell you about it though is that this graffiti most likely was written down during WW2 as the graffiti from that time period was done either in pencil or in pen. The older stuff would've been written in ink or carved into the wood.

My old stomping grounds! Downtown Hayward sure has changed since I hung out there back in the late 70's thru the early 90's. I remember when Buffalo Bill's first opened. I remember when the ATM at Centennial Bank gave out $5's, the 2 used book stores, the old bakery, the Beauty Schools, the Hof Brau, the Bottle & Book Liquor Store (that sold about every magazine available and used books!), a thrift store, and the old Greyhound Bus station at the end by the BART station. Yeah, I remember B St quite well! 👍🏼
