Just got(today) a Pivot AM with the 625 watt Bosch motor. Took it out for a rip. It flies. I weigh 158 lbs and it felt great. Can't wait to master it. Have fun.

The inescapability of the Boa debate makes a lot of sense. Ski boots have barely changed at all, and making dramatic changes to boot design is incredibly expensive, and differences between boots is so personal that making general comparisons is really hard to do. Adding Boa allows for minimal R&D costs and quite salient, easily-marketable differences that anyone could understand because literally some of the same boots come with and without Boa. It's a perfect scenario for all ski gear media coverage and consumers to focus excessively on this one design change. Greg made the most convincing point in the whole Boa debate though. The cost of R&D and sourcing a new closure mechanism has not done much to improve boot fit, and it is not even the lowest hanging fruit, which would be the liners. So many stock liners are so bad and pack out so quickly. Zipfit has clearly exerted some pressure on the market, and I don't know what the full retail landscape is, but Kastle's entry into the boot market came with great liners. I don't fully buy that it will never happen when consumers would be able to buy a shell on its own. At the very least, online/distributed retailers like Evo should be able to make those orders for standalone shells, especially as more people start to get their hands on liners that last longer than their shells, which should be a growing population as long as people need to go to standalone liner brands like Zipfit when their crappy stock liners irreversibly pack out before their shells fall apart. Even if liners failed at the same time as shells from a designed obsolescence perspective, boot shells get damaged from crashes, and people would gladly take a discount on next year's boot if they can take their old liner to a new shell (even if the liner is actually toast).

On the subject of sustainability: WNDR Alpine is one of the few ski/snowboard brands that is trying to improve something. Even if it's still “50% bad stuff”, it's still 50% better than the others. I think it's a shame to make statements like that. If everyone in the industry contributed even half as much, these numbers would mean a lot. Nobody is saying that skis have to be reinvented, but there is definitely room for improvement and WNDR proves it.

Great info in this video but Jonathan looks like hes in the witness protection program with a trucker hat and that lighting...i reall wish dalbello would just have a table/list of all their boots and their options somewhere. Its incredibly difficult to piece outy the details from the ad copy . I'm sure retaillers get a list of products in a better form so they can choose what to buy.

I keep my toe clip so loose there’s almost no tension in the buckle. It keeps my toes warm. With buckles you can adjust the pressure at each buckle according to your preference. With BOA you can’t. The ratio of the pressure at each section of your foot is determined by the tension of just one cable. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I get his whole thing about elasticity but the warden is tied for lowest elasticity along with the attack lineup and the marker royale family. So whats the point hes getting at. All alpine bindings have elasticity and he only positively mention two amer bindings. Is he just talking about alpine vs tech bindings.

Ski boot companies need to make the same shell/liner/fit continuously over time because when you find a boot and customize it to fit you who needs to keep searching because these boot companies make so called improvements, just leave it if it's functional. You would think after decades like Lange for ex. nothing much changed vs. Tecnica which completely changed volumes decades ago and then never brought back what really worked well and fit well. Also the women's shell needs to go back to regular height, not short cuff, all women dont have short fat legs, we are tall and slim and need tall cuff boots that hit the shin in the right spot and won't destroy our shins. we used to get men's boots and they were great, but most men's start at size 24 and we need 22 and 23 mondo in a boot, 1 step below the race plug which isn't really needed and can be torture to fit.

Most snowboard boots use an internal lace system to hold the heel independently from the toe/cuff tightness. Sounds like the ridge is doing something similar, which sounds good to me. I think there are a lot of foot shapes that benefit from a "ankle only" fit adjustment, rather than a traditional wrap adjustment

Have they improved the brakes on the Shift bindings, so that they actually work?!
@patrickchase56144 ай бұрын
Glad to see the more solid AFD mechanism on the Shift2. I honestly didn't have trouble with the OG Shift once I figured out how to adjust the AFD mechanism for maximum engagement (i.e. to put it right on the "end" of one step just before moving up to the next), but moving to a fully-micrometric aluminum sliding wedge like that should make life easier on techs and help with overall reputation and market acceptance. I am amused that Salonom is promoting "lowest [binding] stack height" as an advantage. Every racer since the 1990s begs to differ, of course. Joe needs to sound less nervous / more confident while doing his marketing spiel 🙂
@AndrewSteavpack3 ай бұрын
Low stack is an advantage off piste for more stability in variable snow, high edge angle is the benefit to high stack on race skis for edge grip on icy race prepped snow. Hopefully it still has a neutral ramp angle and not just a lower stack heel.
@patrickchase56143 ай бұрын
@@AndrewSteavpack That was more of a joke on my part than a serious comment, but... There is plenty of objective evidence for the benefit of high stack heights when edging ~65-mm-wide racing skis on ice. In that case the binding stack makes a non-trivial difference to edge leverage and racers are demonstrably (but very, very slightly) faster with taller bindings stacks. When you start talking about stability of typical wider all-mountain skis in off-piste conditions then it all becomes _very_ subjective and preference-based (which is part of why I poked fun at it). The lever arm[s] that determine stability (as opposed to edging "leverage") are longer, such that a few mm or a cm of stack height is much less significant. I know plenty of people (and I am one of them) who _subjectively_ prefer feeling close to the snow off-piste, but I also know and know of many elite freeriders who are perfectly stable and competitive with higher-stack bindings, up to and including demo-style bindings. It's not like racing where there is clear evidence of advantage one way or the other. It's just a simple "flavor preference". If what you say were true then shorter-legged skiers would have a stability advantage as well, and there's just no evidence for that whatsoever if you look at the builds of elite freeriders.
