It's crazy, I'd never noticed it before, even when I was flying on this plane 😅 but it's possible... this Pilatus was built in 1967, and I think people were still allowed to smoke while flying back in those days 😉

Thanks for your com @davidwheatcroft2797 ! The Pilatus PC6 can overspeed like any other plane, but we are allowed by the manufacturer to make that kind of steep descent by using the « beta » range. Basically we reduced the propeller pitch in flight and it acts like a big brake and keep the speed in the green arc 💪 I don’t know if the PC6 is still in use in the US but I know that Air America used them in the 60´s. Fly safe 🚀

Amazing how quickly they get down! While maybe not practiced, I feel like knowing how this is done would be good for all pilots for emergencies when you need to descend extremely quickly - such as cabin pressure loss or something on fire.

I am a student pilot still practicing with a Cessna 172 in Dallas, I really enjoyed your amazing video, good piloting skills and a good camera recording everything. I got a gopro camera but I am still wondering the way to install it on the cockpit, sometimes I am able to watch unbelievable details in each flight like traffic, birds flying really high and even drones. If I have the opportunity I just grab my phone to take a brief video of 10 or 15 seconds long and from that I can take a picture too. A few days ago I just had the experience practicing the slow flight maneuver an the wind was really strong with more than 40 knots so the instructor found the way to fly against the wind plus our slow flight with an average of 35 to 38 KIAS and suddenly the aircraft was not moving at all, just suspended in the middle of the air, then we discovered we were flying backwards, my instructor took the control to allow me to take a video. Wow, that was a very unique experience.

Suction cup mount. I have a few videos on my channel that I made to share with friends/family. You can attach it to the rear window, or the front. Attaching to the front obstructs some of your vision though. Good luck on your aviation journey

I love the porter When I was in the army the pilots we had were amazing and I watched one one day come in for a landing and we had 15 knots down the runway And he throttled it back at 10 feet and hovered then backed down the runway about 100 meters and then throttled back up and flew off Pre mobile phone days so no video evidence unfortunately as it is something I would like to see again 👍👍

An owner of a Porter flew from NY down to Covington La for the winter. He checked out our Cessna 182 pilot to fly it for the DZ. Needless to say he was in seventh heaven as were we jumpers. This was the late 80's or early 90's. Best fun and laid back DZ I have ever jumped at.

Quelle est la configuration de descente ? Volet, pas de l'hélice, taux, vitesse...? Merci pour la vidéo
@reunion974jb
@reunion974jb 3 жыл бұрын
Fly safe !

Very impressive! Perhaps now would be a good time to do a weight and balance adjustment toward the 'old' side of the pilot vs. the 'bold' side however? Way too many years ago at Ft. Bragg I had the good fortune to jump out of a few Porters that didn't have any tail numbers piloted by the kinds of government employe... errr, I mean completely private citizens who fly airplanes without tail numbers, but EVERY once in a while, the plane, although amazing, CAN break... Stay safe!
@mridoit1701
@mridoit1701 3 жыл бұрын
How do you make sure not to overspeed? I know the prop is a break but there got to br more to it than put it in beta and it'll to go 90° down like it's nothing without over speeding? What extra things do you do?
@reunion974jb
@reunion974jb 3 жыл бұрын
The 90 degres pitch down is only at the beginning of the descent. I drop the guys around 60-70kt and the VNE is 152kt so that gives me 10sec of acceleration, then i have to come back to a « normal » pitch down, around 60 degres. So you can overspeed even with beta mode. It’s more visible on this one : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n71me8mnx62ndI0.html 👌

Yes it's a very difficult period for young pilots... and it was already not easy to find a first job before the Covid. For my part I was able to start flying on PC6 because I was hanging around a lot on my airfield, flying on Beech 58. Because of seeing you people start to know you, and what a paraclub is looking for (my point of view) is a simple guy, safe and who will take care of their machine and its skydivers. As far as the current situation is concerned, I would rather advise you to target business aviation, because the aerial is going badly certainly, the Covid hurts everyone, but not for the rich who are even richer (again, my point of view). But keep going my friend, it's a nice license you have now !
