Thanks to the cute man with the funny voice. Scoring below the plate worked on my security, outside door. I have very few tools, so I used a flathead, instead of a file, a heavy hammer, and gave the ol' girl (like you mights say) a good whack! When I tried to retighten the screws, it did like you said and brought everything back up again, so I repeated the process and it worked again. I will probably do the matchstick trick at a later date, but that's all for today. Tally ho!

Rob, Wanted to comment and let you know that there is a new door hardware product that is perfect for loose door latches or deadbolts. ReSecure Latch is a revolutionary product that replaces the ugly metal sleeve that is used to hold in a loose door latch or deadbolt. ReSecure Latch sits inside the door alongside the latch allowing the supplied screws to hold the latch back into the door. No more need for glue, sticks, or putty either. Available on our website and video demonstration can be found on our YT channel.

11/15/23 - Thanks for the help! Our door between the house and the garage wouldn’t stay shut without lifting up on the door handle while bumping it to get it to stay shut. I chiseled out some of the wood below the catch plate, and screwed the catch plate back in at a slight downward angle. Worked like a charm!

My brother in law has his own paint business and uses pantyhose all the time. He also uses them on his paint sprayer to keep it from clogging. He picks up left over paints from many paint retailers and he mixes them to get desired colors. His father was a painter and he worked with his father growing up. Old school. I have learned a lot from him in the last 30 years working with him from time to time. I wouldn’t want to do it as a career as I don’t like working with all the various chemicals. I do like painting as a hobby. FYI: It is important to know what you are working with, have proper ventilation, wear a ventilator when working with harsh chemicals such as strippers. People are mislead by certain strippers such as citrus strip just because there are no harsh smell and it is MASKED by the orange scent. It has ALL the same hazards as the harsh smelling ones. If you are unsure look it up on the safety data hazmat sheet.
