WOW! -- i can't believe that you are "gluing" any part of the deck to hull joint, especially after all the endless reported problems. GLUE will never hold long term. You know that you should use fiberglass to tape all joints and the fact that you are now skimping on that is shocking. I never thought that Seawind would get sucked into cutting corners but here we are. Can you order the 1370 with 100 percent taped deck to hull joints if that is my preference? I want a solid catamaran or, if I wanted the cheap easy glue method, I could just go to Lagoon and deal with their junk.

Nice! -- QUESTION -- Can you make a larger version of the 1370? The 1370 is easily the nicest looking 45' Catamaran for world cruising. However, it would be nice it if was slightly larger so we could put a proper sized washing machine and drying machine (both) into it (the tiny micro machine is simply too silly for full-time live aboards). Maybe a 1570 or 1670 would be perfect! The 1600 simply looks outdated by at least one generation whereas the 1370 simply stunning.

@@amunderdog this exact boat had a ton of warranty work including the gel coat coming up. The owner of seawind posted on their channel and took responsibility. Also, the boat was damaged during shipping, not seawinds fault but, this particular boat had a ton of issues.

I think the reason he gives for the helm placement is not correct or good. Having a fly bridge gives the captain the best possible line of sight, not having to shift around or sit out in the elements to get a good view. Great boats but the reasons for the helm being where they are seem weak to me.

17:50 Having sailed almost 30,000 sea miles on 1160! 8 disagree with you, the helm placement absolutely works, and I could see everything and keep dry in strong conditions. I could always be able to speak normally to Stuart! I just wish that I could still be sailing! Old age has now caught up. However I would buy the 1170 in @ minute if I was still able!

@@user-ml3yv8eo2k I’m actually thinking about the 1160 specifically because of the outboards. I like not having to get the boat out of the water for sail drive maintenance etc. did you have the 9.9 hp Yamahas? How was the boat in general for you?

@@Steve-qn8gn Hi Steve, my first Seawind was the 1000 it had outboards, but then I wanted to cruise overseas so purchased an 1160 it had two Yanmar diesel’s thirty horsepower each. I could sail single handed in both, it is all about money. The cost of running the 1160 is much higher. In the end I sold mine which is still sailing as a charter boat on Sydney Harbour she is called XTsea and you can contact them on line.

Love these 1170 1260 and 1370 designs. Question, I don’t see many of these cruising in northern waters. Are there? Is it a safe vessel for North Atlantic (ie Northeast coast - Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia) type conditions?

Well I do see a number of comments on the owners forum about winterising seawinds so I assume there are quite a few there. We have sailed SCARLETT in the southern ocean where it’s wild and woolly - if not quite as cold as the places you mention.

Absolutely, the 1160 was cruise boat winner in USA! I sailed about 30000 sea miles in 1160, had storms etc, never worried about anything. Of course one needs good experience sailing a cat first. Not the same as mono.

It's a personal preference and not for all. If you want a galley up in a boat that is sub 43 foot, you are likely either going to have a compromised galley OR you are in a very high volume (charter) cat which is also not in line with our performance requirements for cruising.

@1sailfast

I would have bought a Seawind, it's a terrific boat, but this was the one big deal killer for me. Having the engine under a berth makes it very difficult to access for routine fluid checks, and even more difficult to remove if needed (it does happen that the engine or saildrive needs to come out for service). This is a much bigger problem than the worries that some water might come in via a deck hatch. Trust me folks, if the seas are so rough that you’re worried about waves washing over a deck hatch, then you do NOT want to be below decks either with your head hanging into an engine bay. (Best tactic is to use one engine, or sail to more sheltered waters, or lie ahull until things calm down).

Another advantage is fewer holes below the waterline and associated valves (somewhat negated in this example by the generator!)

lots of potential here but I would like to know what customizations can be had with one of the engineers. move the nav station forward facing, port side / integrated with saloon. owner port berth moved aft, (however judging by the stairs and potentially the mold design, moving the stairs forward may not be possible) head and shower moved to the front of the hull with escape hatch /big vent in shower. it would free up a lot of space to have a well appointed shower with seat and a separate head.. possibly with a port hole design that allows you to plop right into the water below. if not, a raw water flush out of the black tank option. on the galley side instead of a inlaid bed on the aft cabin, I would make that provisions and pantry area for crossings, possibly another freezer. also allow space that a hammock could be hung. forward through the galley instead of an inlaid bed two folding single bunks that can stow integrated and out of the way with that space also acting as an optional hammock hang as well when the bunks are up. this area could be used for stowing additional provisions when not in use or perhaps gear. forward of that the combo toilet shower head is ok, as long as there can be a pass through to the storage above so perhaps orient the toilet differently. my thoughts are that the tanks are more centrally located under/near the main mast (blackwater, freshwater, fuel) so the idea of running plumbing that deals with toilet waste would be better to have those heads forward, not aft as that would constitute a simpler less run in comparison. (another off the cuff idea for the starboard side, would be to move the head back so it's just on the other side of kitchen, and move the bunk/hammock / stowage forward more where the starboard head is located in the default configuration -this would allow for a larger area and potential drop down storage through the top hatch as well.). additionally I would want a larger rotating display, integrated or elegant stowage solution for the pop out windows, duel auto pilots for redundancy. selden SMF, and fully electronic foresail furling systems as well, allowing for easier single person, push button sailing - this would be an older couple who retire early, with plans for circumnavigation. @seawind catamarans I'd like details on how the rudders are designed - will the break in an impact? without destroying the steering system and simply carry redundancy extra rudder and slide it in place while underway.

I really appreciate the time you guys are putting into documenting and sharing this build information, it s really a credit to the engineering team to see you assembling and creating his model in this social media platform. Thanks Mike and the Team. I love the 1370 and especially Nick's Ruby Rose model but I have 1 concern about the hidden lines under the deck. If replacing an old line you just pull the new line through the sheaves with the old line but how do you run the new line incase the line actually separate and pull out completely?

Starting to understand the subtle differences in construction now between the 1370 and its competitor the Balance 442. The 1370 is glassed in high load areas only then everywhere else is glued and has mechanical fasteners to join. The 442 is joined with epoxy resin and glassed along the entire joint inside and out then hand faired so it’s one piece. Much more labor intensive, so I imagine saves a bunch of cost/time in the build they can pass the savings onto the customer for a minor compromise. Both fantastic catamarans! Definitely my favorite Seawind 👍🏻
