I abhor drugs and I’m not fond of the counterculture lifestyle. But I love this movie! The visuals are surreal and absurd, the colors and camera angles are super pretty, the performances are great, I had a blast watching this! This film takes you everywhere like a roller coaster and doesn’t give you a lot of time to breathe. One other movie that has that same kind of energy is The Wolf of Wall Street I also quite like Hunter Thompson’s style of journalism: he and his attorney and friend Oscar Acosta’s personas are brought to life within two fictional characters, Duke and Gonzo respectively Depp and Del Toro work really well together, it’s also crazy to think how convincing Del Toro was. I heard that after this movie came out (and unfortunately bombed), he didn’t get work for a while because people were convinced that he was actually nuts, like he was in the film. This film ought to be in the national film registry because it rules! Too many funny scenes to list, but this is one of them

You know what blows my mind and I never knew this, after this movie been my absolute favorite since my teen years. This movie was produced by one of the Monty Python guys. And it's such a masterpiece. Not just the acting and the crazy shit going on. But the way the movie is built up. The songs used, the hollow way the voice over sounds, the whole vibe. It's brilliant. And just like with the Big Lebowski, it doesn't matter how many times you see it. You always pick up on some new thing/joke that you missed before. And then I haven't gotten to two actors playing the role of their life.

The best intro to a film. I believe Terry Gilliam who directed this film deserves more credit. Gilliam worked with Hunter on the film and when Hunter seen the film he called it a masterpiece. So glad Hunter gave his blessing to the film.
