This was fun! I've not yet even tried (til today!) to paint a face with water colors. I did a quick thumbnail sketch to give it a go and have one question please: should layers dry before adding shadows?
@TheArteryOnline12 күн бұрын
It depends on the effect you’re after. If a layer is damp it can give you subtle blends, if it’s dry it will give you harder edges, but importantly if it’s almost dry, you will get ‘cauliflowering’ in watercolour, or will lift of the under layer in acrylics.

I wake up and think of Jesus and pray and in the midst of that um thinking of my next art piece. I go to bed thinking about art and things/scenes I see in movies and on the internet and in everyday country life ...I am in my head thinking how id paint it. The only thing I lack is confidence ...so I paint one painting a day on a small canvass until the confidence and loose painting comes !

Thanks for your honesty- but I have to say that I love what you showed us! The mushrooms and butterflies were my favorite.
Thank you this helped so much all I had been seeing was wet on wet methods and I thought that I would have to repaint the background 😅 luckily I found this before I made that mistake

❤ It seems like it would be the easiest thing in the world to say, “Great job! Look for ward to your next one” but alas, not everyone thinks that way. We are all here to learn and grow, and you are a beacon of positivity in a grumpy world. So thank you for all of your tips and encouragement!

Great information! Can you explain what it means that a colour is purple/orange/green colour? I am thinking they should be blue/red hues? Cant get my thinking right ;-)
@TheArteryOnlineАй бұрын
Ah all colours lean to or have a bias of another colour. All reds are either purple-based or orange-based, all blues are either green-based or purple-based, and all yellows are either greens-based or orange-based. Knowing this helps massively. For a bright green you use both a green-based yellow and a green-based blue, a mid green you keep one of the green-based colours you need, say a green-based yellow, and then add the other blue, a purple-based blue. For a dark green you mix the yellow and the blue that have little to no green in them - so an orange-based yellow and a purple-based blue. It takes a while to get your head round but it’s a game changer to enable you to get the colour mix you want very single time. I’ve done a few longer videos trying to explain it more clearly.

I started painting with my two grandsons at a very early age, and I’m delighted to say they both show a lot of promise - the older one (age 8) has produced a couple that I’m envious of! I will definitely continue to mentor and encourage them in the arts 😊

You forgot one to one tutoring. However, great advice. Far too many people are 'encouraged' to sign up for things that may not be the right thing for them. You also forgot that tutors are human too, and it is important to find a tutor that you can relate to.

For watercolors you can use acrylic gouache for the value underpainting. It will dry permanently.
