Thank you so much for posting this video! You just answered a lot of our questions for our DIY composite deck project. :)

That scalloped board is nice and sturdy but it gets easely scratched, thats why it is much cheaper

Do you have something on top of the wood joists? What is that black material?

That particular trex board will get hot as a frying pan in the sun. Theoretically, it shouldnt, but it does.

Composite boards can't handle continuous foot traffic for more than one year, two if your lucky.

Hope that deck is just mock up. If its not i would be more concerned about the structure not deck board overhang.
@TheBikerDodge3 күн бұрын
Yeah just deflect your level instead of using a straight piece of wood. Then again, cheap shit level so it's probably fucked anyway.

The outrageously high prices of deck materials could make one think they are made of gold - even the stressed stuff is costly.. that said, choosing/ purchasing- a product sensibly is even more important. What do you want in a deck? What is most important- to you or me? everyone is different. I, on one hand, don't like slipping and falling. How do you compare one product to the others- fairly and to natural materials? With a small project quickly getting into the heavy G's, how does this stuff end up looking after ten seasons of sun, sand, tree sap, bug juice and did I say sun? Stress tests- let’s see them. Just started looking. good info.

Definitely not “Larkik”. In Lufkin (Luf-K-in). But k do believe they are the best tape measures. I use them for work regularly, but mostly for home projects. Keep at least 3 going. 1 at saw, 1 at work place, and 1 somewhere between. Never had 1 break or wear out yet. Made by Crescent. Commonly available at Lowes.

Stop buy the cheap scalloped boards. If you want a decorative overhang get at least one solid (not scalloped) board for that edge. Neither company recommends scalloped boards with an overhang.
@basedlogic6 күн бұрын
Even the economical ones offer a solid bored. Just order that for your picture frame and stairs. I learned this the hard way.

composite decking is a joke, if you want to spend insane money on materials go with that herringbone ash wood system or get japanese cypress. trex is junk enjoy having your entire backyard top soil full of micro plastic for the next half million years

How do you deal with low points among the joists ? I've planed and belt sanded the high points, but there remain many joists below, in certain areas, the level top surface of the joist/frame ?
@stevehanzel28788 күн бұрын
Well you’re not supposed to hang it over one inch the skirt is supposed to cover up the end grain

do composite decks even last longer the. treated wood ? mushroomed fasteners. moldy undersides saw dust and glue interior 100 percent pvc decking or use wood
@drkies9 күн бұрын
The problem with this method is in soft or hardwood the heel of the saw can be difficult to control giving wavy cuts.

Or you go woth NewTechwood, they have an edge board that solid, with a special notch that fits their clips and you get a strong, totally hidden fastener system. Their deck boards have holes end to end for weight and heat (my deck is black, i can walk barefoot in summer on it) and theor post system is great too, all at a very competitive price
@jack540211 күн бұрын
That's not a track saw at all, it's just a straight edge guide...and one of the oldest and most obvious ways to get a straight cut
