This is sad. I took my drivers test on the lower level. Stelmacki’s grocery store was there too. I think there was a bowling ally there and a movie theater also.

Sure didn't take long from being built to closing down. I remember when it was being built thinking "what a waste of money", because most every big shopping mall was being abandon.

If I had a billion or two, I might buy it & rebuild it, because I grew up not too far from here, and remember it when it was a popular place to go. Brings back memories.

In the summer of 1975 I turned 16 and tested for my drivers license there. The bottom floor was leased to the State for drivers license testing. I recall it well, my hair was half-way down my back and when the Missouri State Trooper walked outside asking for me I don't think he was a fan of guys with long hair, considering all Trooper's sported crew-cuts, lol. I had just talked my dad into letting me install a new Pioneer Super Tuner cassette deck with a separate amp. Plus, a pair of Jensen Triax speakers in his car. That thing CRANKED! I had a few cassettes in the glove box and one of them was Alice Cooper's Killer. After the Trooper got in the car I was very tempted to push that Killer tape in and play "You Drive Me Nervous" because that's exactly what I was! No problem I passed and was smiling the whole way home. Dad let me drive, but no music because the Cardinals were playing a game and dad never missed watching or listening to a Card's game.

@@fireghostExplores Won't happen, in 25-30 years all of N County (including Florissant and Hazelwood.) will be considered a low income minority area. Most of it (if not all.) has to do with the age of the area. My subdivision was built in the mid 1950s, and some of the houses around my subdivision were built one at a time and you can still see the coal chutes on some of them. After WW2 the big push for the new idea called subdivisions hit N County starting in the late 1940s. I found out what can happen when cities allow rentals and sec. 8/Hud Housing in. Next store to me is such a house and one night a coupe of years ago someone decided to stand in the sidewalk and shoot the house. It wasn't random it was targeted at someone that lived there and may still live there now. At least 5 or 6 holes in the aluminum garage door and where it bounced off the brick.

I went there for kindergarten and across the street for 1st and 2nd grade before moving out of the city. After so many years I stopped by. Feeing Nostalgic for some odd reason, I was kind of shocked that both schools had been closed for what seems a very long time. I went there as a small kid in the mid 70''s.

@@fireghostExplores The mall itself closes for business on August 1; not sure what happens between then and October 15. The only things that will remain is the Dillards/Stix Baer & Fuller that closed in 2016 following a water main break and the Macy's/Famous-Barr building, which will be repurposed.

Chicago had Cabin Green , Robert Taylor, and other housing projects that failed completely. Actually, life in those buildings was good for, at most, A decade or two. Then a combination of gangs and mismanagement created a hellish condition. When Chicago City government officially gave up, every city leader, every social service agency, and both city newspaper editorial staffs placed the blame on "the buildings". Building design, building location, building density, building equipment. Nary a word about the real cause of the failure, which was the quality of the occupants. Not politically correct to blame people, so "the buildings" were blamed.

We moved to north county in 1961. I remember how attractive and unusual the tower was. A movie theater and restaurant. We often went to the public library and a drive-in theater near by, too. Your video is such a shock. I haven’t been by the tower in several decades. … You mispronounce words and occasionally say strange phrases. Just who/what is speaking here?

I just drove past this area this morning. It was slated for much mega development that never happened due to the crime demographics. There was much crime there before Ferguson. Take the bus out from the North side of St. Louis, steal things, and then steal a car to bring them home. Until the ghetto culture of the north side is broken, until it becomes more inclusive of all cultures, the North side will always fail.
