Poverty franchise and poverty hire. Senators should be removed from the league. What do they contribute? Besides losing? Same goes for Sabres and blue jackets. Just get out of the league if you suck.

No Steve, the record is the ONLY thing that matters! You don't win anything for being a good guy. This guy is gonna run this team further into the ground for the simple fact, he is not qualified for this position and ONLY got it because his buddy owns the team. NO other NHL team would have hired Staois for an open GM job. The more things change in Ottawa the more they stay the same. Wake me up in four years when were doing another head coach and GM search.

“NO other NHL team would have hired Staois for an open GM job”- this right here! Sens fans seem completely oblivious to this fact.
@scott76218 күн бұрын
This new ownership is clueless. The owner hires his buddy with ZERO NHL GM experience, the GM then hires his buddy who has a losing record as a head coach. If he was any good, New Jersey would have kept him. We will be looking for a new coach and GM in two years. The excitement about this new ownership has soured over the last year and I have no hope or excitement for the future, just more of the same in Ottawa.

Hey, I am a francophone...sure it's nice if the coach can speak French...but I am more interested in winning. As long as Green has an open mind and maybe learn a few phrases - Bonjour... I really don't see that as a criteria. He needs to be a great hockey coach. We had Guy Boucher, he speaks French we had great run in 2017 (that was fun) but then things fell apart. Losing is no fun, in French or English. So I am glad the Sens got a hockey guy! It's also great that Mr Andlauer grew up in Montreal, speaks French and sets the right tone at the top. He knows how to approach that dynamic and it shows.
@marcelleclair44528 күн бұрын
If we believe in Mr Andlauer and believe that Steve Staios knows what he is doing, then it follows that we have to believe they made the best possible choice. Green is an NHLer, not a junior coach. He might not have a Stanley Cup résumé ... yet! However, he does scars earned at the NHL level. Cannot solely look at win-loss records, there is more to it as Staios said. I trust he made the right choice. Go for it.

Wouldn’t it make more sense for him to learn Russian so he can better communicate with his players and win more games than to waste time learning a language that has zero benefit on the ice? The coaches job is to win hockey games. Get a PR person to learn French if anyone. And what’s wrong with google translate? It takes 2 seconds. A lot easier than having a guy spend half his time trying to learn a new (professionally useless) language. How completely stupid.

@DarthChewie8 күн бұрын
@@prehensilelung1751 Bargain bin is hiring a coach with little-to-no NHL head coaching experience because it's cheaper. That doesn't describe this situation at all. You must be new here: Craig Hartsberg. Cory Clouston. Paul Mclean. Dave Cameron. Guy Boucher. DJ Smith. Bargain bin coaches: either zero experience or washed-up. But Melnyk was cheap so they got hired. Not one of them has gotten another NHL head coaching job since.

1) Berube only wants to start with a team who's already making the playoffs consistently and take them to the next level. Plus $ 2) There are cities far more attractive to other coaches (E.g., LA's year round weather; American cities have WAY less media/fan scrutiny) Thus, when you're Winnipeg or Ottawa, you're left picking from the rest.

When Staois (himself one of the lowest paid GM’s in the NHL-likely bottom 3) says they conducted a thorough search, I think he forgot to add; under the financial constraints we operate under. When your budget for an NHL coach is less than $2M/year, this is what ya get! Top tier coaches or high profile coaching names in this league command $4-6M/year-no way in hell Sens ownership was gonna fork over that kinda dough. As a result, Staois had to go coach-shopping with a low-limit credit card.

@donovans.8 күн бұрын
This was a monetary decision. 4 year deal for Green at approx $1.5M/year. Berube is rumoured to be in the $5-6M/year for his next coaching gig. I think Sens fans who are saying other coaches don’t wanna come to Ottawa are actually wrong. Other more prominent coaching names don’t want to come because the Sens simply can’t pay to money needed to attract a top tier coach-not even close! This 4 year deal for Travis Green will make him one of the lowest paid coaches in the NHL. Andlauer simply doesn’t have the budget to hire a top tier or big name coach. As a result, this is what you get-just a dude, who’s coached and played in this league, but hasn’t really accomplished much in either role.
@user-pn2qz1zf2p8 күн бұрын
It's more than just money. American cities have far less media and fan scrutiny. LA has better weather. On and On and On. Winnipeg and Ottawa can only pick from the scrap heap.
