To Joel’s point- about the islands - I would venture on to say you are only looking at it from how your perspective (in my experience), it can diminish if it happens to add to 100% of the complex of a person. If in Riley’s childhood her family island might have been all 100% of it, but as others “islands” form as she grows, they take out of the whole, so it might diminish in size - but to Antonia’s point, not less important. About the dad’s emotion- I agree it might be a disservice, however, his dad might be that typical dad with limited emotion displayed. It might be obvious to the audience on purpose, as a comparison, so the dad was made like that on purpose to contrast. But again, we don’t really get the “insides” of dad. Is not part of the story- is about the “insides” of Riley. That’s the perspective. Not dads. Is a children story after all so they have provide “clear contrast”… My 2c. Also your point on art is a bit more nuanced than that in reality - it really is misunderstood. (I am in the “art world” and have engaged/related and know many artists (modern ones) and their “style” or the type of art varies like anything in history. The narrative that modern art sucks, is completely biased in the sense it comes from a misunderstanding of what is perceive art is. All good. Just meant to say is more nuanced than that. (The oldest art is considered figurative art - and is not by definition “new.”) I would suggest for you to look into that angle if you want to dig deeper or are interested. Cheers!

The movies that are often mentioned as one of the best strong female characters is Alien and Alien 2. I haven't seen them but I've seen some very good points made that it's the pinnacle of strong female characters. Also as a contrast and critique of modern archetypes.

Being an INTP with ADHD and depression is the absolute worst. I am always stuck in analysis paralysis and functional freeze. It's the same as wanting to drink water to quench your thirst but your hands are tied. Absolutely destroys my soul and it is soo draining. I feel hopeless thinking about all the potential I have that I am not able to work towards because of the other mental health challenges

Definitely a really important topic! I'd be interested in exploring this topic more, especially exercises or things to do to get more access to the emotions we don't allow ourselves to feel. I've used the Emotion Wheel as a starting off point before, but as an Fe-dom it can be really difficult to access my own needs and emotions vs those of other people.

I'm detached the only way to get through my mom's death so that's my way to cope if I wasn't I would be a mess I don't like feeling vulnerable for the reason that people pick up on that and may exploit it. having negative emotions it's hard to think clearer or to reach clarity . As an ENTP I would probably be a great lawyer, but I don't see the point in having paperwork if I know I just need to be placed in a job and I can excel. Also, the problem with me personally is that although I am a debater ENTP I have a strong moral compass and I can't defend someone I know without certainty is guilty.

Hi you guys. I doubt you would remember me, but I'm a long term listener that has interacted with you a few times. I stopped listening to podcasts as voraciously & so your show dropped off my radar. I wanted to let you know that this show allowed me to reconnect to you both. In some odd way, I feel like you're family, so that feeling was nice. Don't stop being human, please, it's a rare gift. & Joel, that you avoided the ease of talking about everything authoritatively, you took the same road as our scientific community, the road less travelled, the harder one of less profit, less recognition, less infamy. fwiw you have my respect. You won't lose my respect by doing what you have to to make money because I know that what makes you tick is the truth, & richness, of & in complexity. Antonia, you're your normal brilliant. I'm very happy to see you - how I would characterise as - mellow, like a fine wine. Who am I to say such things? I'm a nobody. I'm not judging you, just reflecting what I perceive. Looking forward to the 1000 mark look at you ❤

Greatly appreciate what you do. Tons of clarity through your videos and also excellent examples of the ENFP and ENTP perspectives. A little reflection on Feel Wheels and looking for analogs in the thinking world. I feel that just as Ti thinkers might balk at groundless lists of rules and want to hear the logic that led to these decisions. And Te would be more keen to assume the system is doing its job and accept. That Fi types instinctively push back against feel wheels with a sort of “you don’t know me” feeling. The lyric “take the time to get to know me” comes up as perhaps powerfully Fi. Fi doesn’t want anyone to tell them who they are. They will find out in time. And they approach everyone with this perspective. (The desire to know deeply and individually) The perspective of Te and Fe is much less intimate when it comes to identity, so a system is a welcome tool to increase intimacy with self, whereas for an Fi they may react that this is less intimate. Perhaps the truth is something like… both. People are unique AND people rhyme. That’s why we can have rich inner lives AND rich outer lives. And yes, as a Ti thinker who pushes back against simplified decisions, I can understand the Fi skepticism around feel wheels and personality typing. Just as I am naturally Ti skeptical around existing rules and systems. But what I have seen is that everything rhymes, and also, that personality typing has something to teach anyone. For example, with our clear talents also comes clear unconscious blindspots. This is probably something new to an Fi type unless explicitly mapped out via the system.

Agree with the ENTP lady. I'm not 'afraid' or hard work. I'll out-work most anybody if I'm feeling spiteful enough. I just feel trapped with routines. Claustraphobic almost. I'll bust my ass doing the impossible....for a while. And then I'm out. I don't care if it's hard/easy/mid. All I see is a numbing sameness, a blink or two, and I'm on my death bed having done nothing else but that one silly thing. Ne is scary as your lead function. I don't just see possibilities, I see dead ends too.

I find that with inferior Ni, I get stuck between possibilities for narratives. For example, I don't necessarily know what is going on in relationships, and I will find solid evidence for different possibilities but will rarely be able to settle on any of those possibilities. There are also times when I just cannot seem to see another possibility. I may clearly see two opposite perspectives but fail to see the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and so on. Maybe inferior Ni is why I mis-typed myself as an ENTJ for years. This episode really confirmed what I have recently suspected but, of course, I never would have arrived at this conclusion without someone else pointing it out. Anyway, great episode!

For the longest time I have known I was an INxJ type and it took me about two years to figure out that the entire time I had not taken my personality traits into account. Ofc intjs and infjs have a lot of common personality traits and such, but after a while I had realized I was an intj the entire time. I just like to think that my Fe and Te were balanced at one point or another.

vey nice presentation, I enjoyed it. engineering a sales pitch to a naturally calculating and sharply defensive group of people must have been difficult. the end “secret” as your main hook popped the bubble as it appeals to the very thing that the heaviest defenses are built around. have you considered correlations between intj and asd? perhaps a more solid sales model would be an intellectual approach instead of an emotional one. i am both and can tell you for certain that there is a lot of overlap in behaviors, motivations and traits. cheers

Couldn’t figure out how to write a review on Spotify 😢- But I wanted to help Antonia out!! Oh my gosh: Where do I even start??? You both have had such an impact on my life!!! The way you present information beckons the listener to really consider themselves. Is THAT me or is THIS me? I thought I was INFP for a long time. Then I thought I was INFJ. Now I know I’m ENFJ 😊. I just needed comprehensive, witty, down-to-earth, genuine, and insightful sources like Joel and Antonia to validate that type really does look different for different people. But it’s all about “where your head is at” (your cognition). PH has helped me understand those I love in ways I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise! I love the style of how you teach these concepts. I’m fan-girling, but I can’t help it 😅 Thank you so very much for what you do and always being authentic while doing it! 💜💜💜

The wiring of the mind. I think it's important to know why it happens. cognitive functions and how they accurd. I mean from day one of humanity. They has to be a reason we get pleasure from being in our dominant function. Studies suggest extraverts have more serotonin. The functions will narrow down into a feeling or something biological. If it becomes possible to determine where it begins. Then it will be more helpful. I think watching your 2 or 3 year old makes it easier to see how humans flip functions. If the brain wiring is set then how does it know. Why would humans need to be wired this way.

Seems like in many of these profiler add videos there is chair shortage. Many sit on the floor when profiling people. Are they doing that by choice? Are people fighting over who gets chairs or tables on profile people day?

On the final day when people are paired up with volunteers over Zoom to profile, the main room(s) get pretty loud with conversations, so it's not uncommon for people to find other spots and cubbies in the hotel to have more quiet as they profile. Which, sometimes, means finding a spot on the floor. Thanks for the question! -Antonia

Joel doesn't like using precise vocabulary, smoothing things over. "Weakness" is a weakness - and even if you can develop your 3rd or 4th function, you will never be a as good at it as the person with the 1st function (CG Jung and Marie Louse von Franz talk a lot about it).
