The Bama Nerd fasting in this context is more than not eating. It involves separating ones self from routine activities for a period of time and praying and seeking God. Jesus did that too.

Hell, I can't imagine an atheist being allowed to visit say, an end-of-life ward or hospice to enable patients to reject their long-held beliefs! I wonder (with a wry smile) if this can happen. It actually has a positive aspect should a patient be troubled by religion seeded guilt.
