How many passenger cars are on this train? im just asking a simple question with no answers, and I've seen different videos of 1702 with the cameraman, not letting the entire train go by for me to count correctly. Is it that hard of a QUESTION TO ANSWER?

Why is it music has to be played so you can hear the engine
@baldwinloco124 күн бұрын
I have no clue what you mean, there is no music being played with the engine running, just the sound from the locomotive.

478's whistle literally sounds like Sierra RR No. 3s whistle (AKA The Polar Express Whistle)

Note that the S-160, S-159, etc., designations were not used by USATC or the manufactures at the time the locomotives were built. They were coined by Tourrett when he was writing his books on WWII locomotives. (However, since they are the commonly accepted designation by rail fans, I follow suit.) ALCO used a similar S-XXX designation for their locomotives but it wasn't specific to those for the USATC. There were about several variation on the class. The "standard" export version was made in the largest quantity. These didn't have bells, electric lights, or generators. A group of 5 foot gauge locomotive were built by Baldwin for the U.S.S.R. Another group was built for India, these were 5 foot 6 inch gauge. (Both the U.S.S.R. and Indian versions had electric lights and generators.) The best I can tell, 10 standard gauge locomotives were built with modifications to U.S. specifications. They had a bell, power reverse, knuckle couplers, pilot, air operated firebox door, electrical generator and lighting, and only air brakes. Some of the last "standard" S-160s built had a screw reverse instead of Johnson bar or power reverse. One of the Army's locomotives was modified with Franklin poppet valve gear in the early 1950s. A total of 17 operated in the U.S. (not including 610). Ten were configured to U.S. specifications. Six or these were delivered directly to the Alaska Railroad from Baldwin and two to Ft. Eustis. Two others didn't enter service until after the war and were purchased as surplus by the Alaska Railroad. The Alaska Railroad also obtained additional used and new "standard" S-160s via war surplus after the war for a total of 12. These were modified by the ARR to match the other U.S. spec locomotives. Very early, the ARR removed the single cylinder compressor from the smoke box front and replaced them with a compound compressor on the front deck. Of the ARR locomotives, one was wrecked, one is on display, and one is being restored. The remaining 9 went to Spain where they saw little or no use before being scrapped. Despite it being widely claimed, in extensive reviews of engineering drawings and specifications for the class I have not found any evidence that axle boxes were lubricated with grease. The locomotives were fitted with two, 8-feed Nathan DV-4 lubricators when built. One fed journal oil to the eight driver journal bearings, the other fed steam cylinder oil to the cylinders, valves, and lead truck journal bearings. I've become pretty familiar with the S-160s from 12 years involvement with the restoration of Alaska Railroad 557 and have specialized in acquiring and cataloging the technical drawing collection.

I believe that GP7 1835 is actually a GP7L. They are easily recognizable by their AAR type B switcher trucks and small fuel tanks.

Why did the JS in Iowa have a bell installed? I thought that technically the bell is not a legal requirement here.

Went there recently. 119 is being engulfed in plants, 13 is rusty with one of its running board's broken, #1's wooden cab is there (not full locomotive). There are also a few speeders there, mostly in the woods
